The final chapter of the Dandenong Stingrays 2010 TAC Cup season was the annual vote count and presentation night held at the Dingley International.
The vote count saw ultra consistent defender Jake Batchelor awarded the Stingrays Best and Fairest award for season 2010. Batchelor established himself as a top line TAC Cup backman with his strength in the air, run and carry and precise footskills making him a draftable commodity as he headed to the AFL National Draft combine in Canberra. Batchelor polled in 14 out of 18 games for a total of 98 votes to win by 15 votes from bottom age hard running mid-fielder Alex Benbow. Benbow polled in 13 of his 18 games and will be looking forward to 2011 to step up and be an A-Grade TAC Cup Mid-fielder.
Third was tall forward revelation Tom Lynch who progressively enhanced his standing as the year went on. Polling 75 votes in 8 out of 11 games, Lynch missed games early with a broken thumb then played all five NAB AFL Under 18 Nationals games for Vic Country before taking the TAC Cup by storm late in the season and like Batchelor headed to the draft combine in top shape. Last years winner Luke Parker was next on 65 votes polling in 9 of 11 games; one vote ahead of bottom aged Ruck / Forward Todd Elton on 64 and one ahead of diminutive Wingman Nathan Allen on 63. Next was young gun Dylan Shiel who polled in all seven games of TAC Cu[ football he played. Shiel missed games early with a broken foot, had school commitments but when back in the Stingrays fold showed why he has been a target of GWS for the fledgling AFL franchise.
Reliable defender Riley Heddles won Graeme Yeats’s coaches award for dedication and selflessness, Tom Curren won the trainers award for his efforts to overcome his 12 month broken leg and long serving Assistant coach Cameron Stewart won the prestigious Club Person of the year.
