GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME TO THE 2010 EAST MALVERN JFC PRESENTATION DAY and this my second year as President.
WE HAVE A NUMBER OF FORMALITIES TO GET THROUGH THIS MORNING AND I WILL TRY AND KEEP THIS AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE SO THAT I CANT BE ACCUSED OF MAKING THE MORNING “LONG AND DRAWN OUT”. THERE ARE FORMALITIES As AN INCORPORATED ENTITY WE HAVE TO GET THROUGH BUT I WILL TRY AND KEEP THE MORNING MOVING SO YOU CAN HEAR LESS OF ME AND BREAK UP INTO YOU TEAM GROUPS FOR TROPHY AND TEAM AWARD PRESENTATIONS.

WE HAVE REIFORCED THAT PARENT BEHAVIOUR IS THE CORNERSTONE OF A SUCCESSFUL CLUB AND AT ALL TIMES RESPECT OUR OPPOSITION AND THE UMPIRES. I AM PROUND TO SAY THAT THROUGHOUT SEASON 2010 WE HAVE FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE SEASON ACHIEVED THIS OBJECTIVE.

COMMITTEE
IT MAKES A PRESIDENTS LIFE EASY WHEN WE HAVE SUCH AN AMAZING COMMITTEE WHO GIVE SO MUCH TIME TO THE CLUB ENSURING PARTICIPATION IS IN AN ENJOYABLE, COMPETITIVE AND SAFE ENVIRONMENT.
THE 2010 COMMITTEE CONTRIBUTED TIRELESSLY TO THE MANAGEMENT OF THE CLUB THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. IT IS A VERY IMPORTANT ROLE THAT EACH AND EVERY MEMBER OF THE COMMITTEE PERFORMS AND I FEEL WE SHOULD TAKE A MINUTE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ENTIRE 2010 COMMITTEE FOR THEIR HARD WORK, ENTHUSIASM AND DEVOTION TO THE VARIOUS TASKS. BEING A COMMITTEE MEMBER IS OFTEN A THANKLESS TASK AND MUCH IS DONE BEHIND THE SCENES WITHOUT NOTICE OR FANFARE.
I WOULD LIKE ACKNOWLEDGE EACH MEMBER INDIVIDUALLY:
MARC GAUCI VICE PRESIDENT & SECRETARY. AS A CLUB WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE A VICE PRESIDENT WHO HAS AS MUCH PASSION AND COMMITMENT TO THE CLUB AS MARC WITHOUT WHOM MY ROLE AS PRESIDENT WOULD BE A FAR MORE DIFFICULT JOB. AS WELL AS VICE PRESIDENT, MARC WORKED TIRELESSLY AS CLUB SECRETARY AND ATTENDED MSJFL DELEGATE MEETINGS WITH ME. MARC IS ALSO A BOARD MEMBER AT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE.
ROB ANDRISKE CONTINUED AS TREASURER AND AGAIN UNDERTOOK THE THANKLESS TEAM SELECTION ROLE FOR ALL NON GRADED TEAMS. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT ROLES AND ROB ACHIEVED THIS UNDER SOME EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES. I MUST ALSO ACKNOWLEDGE THE GREAT WORK ROB DOES AS TREASUREER THE CLUBS FINANCES ARE IN GOOD HANDS.
MICK AHEARN CONTIUED FOR THE SECOND YEAR AS FOOTBALL OPERATIONS MANAGER AND DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB. TO KEEP THE SEASON RUNNING FROM START TO END AND THEN COORDINATE TROPHIES SHOWS YOUR INVOLVEMENT FROM START TO FINISH AND BEYOND, YOU DO AN AMAZING JOB.
GREG MILLER JOINED THE COMMITTEE THIS YEAR AND HAS DONE AN OUTSTANDING JOB FIRSTLY REVAMPING AND THEN PRODUCING KNIGHTS NEWS EVERY WEEK. GREG HAS ALSO REVAMPED THE WEBSITE, PRODUCED MANY CLUB FLYERS, AND UNDERTOOK THE ROLE OF CLUB PHOTOGRAPHER FOR SEASON 2010 INCLUDING THE TEAM PHOTOS FOR THIS YEAR. GREG YOU HAVE BEEN AMAZING. KNIGHTS NEWS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST CLUB PUBLICATIONS ANYWHERE!
JAMES HAYNE JOINED THE COMMITTEE IN 2010 AND TOOK OVER THE ROLE OF SPONSORSHIP MANAGER. JAMES HAS DONE A FANATSTIC JOB THIS YEAR IN SECURING NEW SPONSORS TO THE CLUB, EITHER SPONSORING TEAMS OR ON A STAND ALONE BASIS. HE HAS RETAINED EXISTING SPONSORS AND ENSURED THAT SPONSORS HAVE IMPROVED THEIR PROFILE WITHIN THE CLUB AND IN OUR PUBLICATIONS. JAMES ALSO WORKED CLOSELY WITH KATE GILBERT IN SECURING DONATIONS FOR THE NIGHT OF KNIGHTS AND RAFFLES AT CLUB NIGHTS. IN ADDITION JAMES HAS BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EMAILO DELIVERY METHOD OF ALL OF OUR PUBLICATIONS.
KATE GILBERT ALSO JOINED THE COMMITTEE IN 2010 AS SOCIAL MANAGER. KATE CONTINUED THE LONG TRADITION OF GILBERT FAMILY INVOLVEMENT IN THE MIGHTY KNIGHTS. KATE WORKED TIRELESSLY DURING THE YEAR ORGANISING OUR NIGHT OF KNIGHTS FUNCTION, CLUB NIGHTS AND PIE NIGHTS. ALL OF OUR FUNCTIONS RAN SMOOTHLY AND WERE ALWAYS AN ENJOYABLE AFFAIR. WE WILL LOOK TO BULD UPON AND IMPROVE OUR SOCIAL FUNCTIONS FOR 2011 UNDER KATES GUIDANCE. WE NEED A GREATER LEVEL OF SUPPORT IN 2011 OF NIGHT OF KNIGHTS AS OUR MAJOR FUND RAISING EVENT.
WE HAVE NO RETIRING COMMITTEE MEMBERS FROM 2010 BUT I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THIS MORNING WE WILL HAVE 2 NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS FOR 2011. GIVEN THE GROWTH IN THE CLUB AND PARTICIPATION WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO HAVE ROY FISH AGREE TO JOIN THE COMMITTEE TO ASSIST MICK AHEARN IN THE ROLE OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS ONE OF THE MOST DEMANDING ROELS IN A CLUB OF THIS SIZE.
IN ADDITION KRISTIE STEFANAC WILL BE JOINING THE COMMITTEE IN THE ROLE OF MERCHANDISING MANAGER. WITH A CLUB OF OUR SIZE APPAREL IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AREAS OF THE CLUB. WITH THE UPGRADE TO THE WEBSITE MUCH OF OUR APPAREL WILL BE ABLE TO BE SOLD ONLINE IN 2011. WE WILL ALSO BE LOOKING TO EXPAND OUR RANGE OF CLUB MERCHANDISE IN 2011.
I HAVE AGREED TO CONTINUE AS PRESIDENT IN 2011 BUT THIS WILL BE MY LAST SEASON AS PRESIDENT. THE MAIN FOCUS I HAVE OVER THE SUMMER IS TO FIND A REPLACEMENT PRESIDENT FOR 2012. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WORKING WITH ME NEXT YEAR AND CONTINUING YOUR INVOLVEMENT OVER THE NEXT FEW SEASONS PLEASE CONSIDER THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY.
REGISTRATION
NOEL SCULLY
IN 2010 THE CLUB FIELDED 21 TEAMS IN THE MSJFL.
FROM UNDER 9’S TO UNDER 15’S. AN INCREASE IN 2 TEAMS FROM 2009.
THE CLUB ALSO FIELDED A YOUTH GIRLS TEAM IN THE VICTORIAN YOUTH GIRLS COMPETITION.
THIS GIVES US A TOTAL OF 22 TEAMS AND MAKES US EQUAL LARGEST CLUB IN THE MSJFL ALONG WITH EAST BRIGHTON.
WE HAVE 533 REGISTERED PLAYERS AND WE HAVE 441 FAMILIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE MIGHTY KINGHTS. THANK YOU TO THOSE WO ARE HERE TODAY.
IN 2011 WE ARE HOPEFUL OF CONTINUING OUR GROWTH IN PLAYERS AND TEAMS WITH THE ADDITION OF AN UNDER 17 TEAM TO COMPETE IN THE MSJFL AND CONTINUED GROWTH ACROSS THE CLUB AT ALL OTHER AGE GROUPS. IF WE ARE SUCCESSFUL IN FIELDING AN U17 TEAM WE WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN ALL AGE GROUPS FROM UNDER 9 TO U17 IN THE MSJFL FOR THE FIRST TIME.
WE REMAIN COMMITTED TO FIELDING A YOUTH GIRLS TEAM IN 2011 AND BEYOND. IN A FURTHER DEVELOPMENT THE CLUB IS FOLLOWING CLOSELY AN INITIATIVE TO LAUNCH A GIRLS ONLY TEAM IN A YOUNGER AGE DIVISION. THIS REMAINS A WORK IN PROGRESS AND WE WILL KEEP MEMBERS INFORMED OVER THE SUMMER MONTHS.
MSJFL & YOUTH GIRLS
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR YOUTH GIRLS WHO COMPETED IN THE EASTERN DIVISION OF THE VICTORIAN YOUTH GIRLS COMPETITION. NOT ONLY DID THE GIRLS PROVE THEMSELVES TO BE VERY COMPETITIVE, THEY WENT ON TO WIN THE 2010 PREMIERSHIP. THIS IS BACK TO BACK PREMIERSHIPS FOR THE GIRLS. A UNIQUE ACHIEVEMENT BY ALICIA EVA WHO LAST YEAR CAPTAINED THE SIDE AND THIS YEAR COACHED THE SIDE TO VICTORY. I AM SURE THIS IS SOME SORT OF UNIQUE RECORD.
THIS SEASON THE CLUB AGAIN COMPETED IN THE MSJFL FOOTBALL COMPETITION.
TO THE MSJFL EXECUTIVES WE WANT TO PASS OUR THANKS ON TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE ASSISTED US THROUGHOUT THE SEASON. WE HAVE RECEIVED GREAT SUPPORT OVER THE SEASON, ESPECIALLY FROM ADMINISTRATION OFFICER DAVID CANNIZZO AND LEAGUE PRESIDENT DAVID ANDREWS.
WHILST WE HAVE FACED CHALLENGES AS A CLUB AND HAD NEW THINGS TO CONTEND WITH WE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HAVE ACHIEVED WHAT WE DID WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT.
AS A CLUB WE HAVE ALSO CONTRIBUTED STRONGLY TO THE LEAGUE HOSTING A DIVISION OF BOTH THE U9 & U10 LIGHTENING PREMIERSHIP AT DW LUCAS. IN ADDITON THROUGH THE HARD WORK OF MARC GAUCI THE NORTHERN UMPIRES ACADEMY WAS ESTABLISHED WITH THE SUPPORT OF ADRIAN FISHER AND THE MSJFL TO PROVIDE AN UMPIRES TRAINING VENUE FOR UMPIRES ON THIS SIDE OF TOWN, WE HOPE THIS INITIATIVE CONTINUES TO GROW AS WE NEED MORE UMPIRES INVOLVED IN THIS GREAT GAME.
THE LIGHTENING PREMIERSHIPS FOR UNDER 9 AND 10’S WERE AGAIN A GREAT SUCCESS.
WE HAD TEAMS CONTEST MSJFL FINALS ACROSS THE AGE GROUPS. WHILST WE ONLY CONTESTED 1 GRAND FINAL IN THE UNDER 11 WEST AGE GROUP, WHO EVENTUALLY WON THE PREMIERSHIP UNDER THE COACHING OF GREIG WARD, THE SUCCESS OF THE SEASON IS NOT MEASURED IN PREMIERSHIPS ALONE. PARTICIAPTION AND ENJOYMENT ARE 2 OF THE SUCCESSFUL MEASURES WE HAVE ACHIEVED AS A CLUB IN 2010 . CONGRATULATIONS GO TO ALL TEAMS FOR VERY SUCCESSFUL SEASONS. THE FACT THAT WE ONLY HAD 1 PRENMIERSHIP TEAM IN THE MSJFL IN 2010 EVIDENCES TO ME WE PLAY IN A VERY STRONG COMPETITION AND WE WILL NEED TO CONTINUE TO IMPROVE ALL ASPECTS OF OUR CLUB IF WE WISH TO HAVE MORE TEAMS PLAY ON THE LAST SUNDAY OF ANY SEASON.
THANKS
THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE TO THANK. WHATEVER I SAY HERE CAN NOT TRULY OUTLINE THE CONTRIBUTION THESE PEOPLE HAVE MADE TO OUR CLUB NOT ONLY THIS YEAR BUT IN SOME CASES OVER MANY YEARS.
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTION IN ADDITON TO THE COMMITTEE I HAVE ALREADY MENTIONED.
ALL COACHES AND TEAM MANAGERS YOU ALL DO A WONDERFUL JOB. TO THE MUMS AND DADS WHO GO THAT EXTRA STEP TO BE INVOLVED, WELL DONE.
TO OUR TRAINER BRIAN WHO IS IN ATTENDANCE AT ALL HOME GAMES. THE FEEDBACK WE HAVE RECEIVED HAS BEEN EXTREMELY POSITIBVE AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOU CONTINUING THIS ROLE FOR US IN 2011.
ROGER TEALE FOR HIS ONGOING INVOLVEMENT AS OUR LEAGUE DELEGATE AND GREAT SUPPORT TO ME AS PRESIDENT.
PETER DUNCAN - CLUB VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
THE CLUB EACH YEAR AWARDS AN AWARD TO A VOLUNTEER WHO GIVES UP HIS TIME TOGIVE TO THIS GREAT CLUB. THIS AWARD IS ONE THAT IS REFLECTIVE OF THE FANTATSTIC COMMUNITY WE HAVE HERE AND IN A SMALL WAY ACKNOWLEDGES SOMEONE WHO HAS DONE SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR THE CLUB.
THIS YEARS CLUB VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR IS DAVID ARNOLD.
AFTER COACHING DURING THE PREVIOUS SEASONS DAVID CAME TO ME AND ASKED IF THE CLUB WOULD SUPPORT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A PROGRAM TO IMPROVE THE SKILLS TRAINING FOR OUR PLAYERS. THIS WAS NOT TO BE AN ELITIST PROGRAM BUT A PROGRAM OPEN TO BOYS AND GIRLS WHO WANTED TO IMPROVE THEIR SKILLS BY DOING EXTRA TRAINING.
I WAS VERY SUPPORTIVE OF THIS INITIATIVE BUT WONDERED HOW SUCCESSFUL IT WOULD BE GIVEN THAT OUR CHILDREN HAVE SO MANY COMMITMENTS. TO MY SURPRISE OVER 70 EMJFC PLAYERS ATTENDED THE FORTNIGHTLY TUESDAY NIGHT SESSIONS AT STANLEY GROSS. THE FEED BACK I HAVE RECEIVED ABOUT THE SUCCESS OF THIS PROGRAM HAS MADE THIS YEARS RECIPIENT OF THE PETER DUNCAN AWARD AN EASY DECISION. DAVID CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS ON BELALF OF THE CLUB.
THANKYOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE NOW ONTO THE REST OF THE AWARDS FOR 2010. WE ARE FORTUNATE THIS YEAR TO HAVE MELBOURNE RUCKMAN AND HOPEFULLY ALL AUSTRALIAN RUCKMAN MARK JAMAR HERE TO PRESENT THE BEST AND FAIRST AWARDS TO ALL RECIPIEMTS. I WILL ASK MARK AND PAUL CONNORS TO JOIN ME ON STAGE.
