The Tradelink Western Magpies are proud to announce that Peter McClennan has been appointed Senior Coach for season 2011 when the club will return to the Pineapple Hotel Cup.
McClennan has been Reserves and Development Coach at the Western Magpies for the past 3 years and his outstanding communication and people management skills have resulted in him being highly respected at Chelmer.
McClennan was offered the head coaching position when Paul Grentell resigned back in May this year but at that point declined and continued as Reserves Coach. Jarrod Thorpe was then appointed. Thorpe stepped down as Magpies Senior Coach late last week wishing to focus on his coaching at QAFL or Northern League level and not in the Pineapple Cup.
An extensive review of the Western Magpies Football Department by CDM Anthony McDonald had reinforced the respect for and high esteem in which McClennan is held across all areas of the Club. On the back of this the Magpies board moved quickly to offer McClennan the 2011 position and he accepted immediately.
CDM Anthony McDonald said, “Peter is an excellent coach and an outstanding people person with a passion and holistic plan for the Western Magpies as a club going forward. He is exactly what this club needs to lead its recovery from two nightmare years in the QAFL.”
Peter McClennan said,” I’m extremely excited with the opportunity in working with the entire playing group, club members, supporters and the Western Magpies board in taking the club forward into the future. We will focus on a brand of football that will be exciting to play and watch, but also provide a strong commitment to continue to develop our player’s skills at all levels, and create a healthy football environment generally“.
The Western Magpies have declared all other Senior, Reserve Coaching positions and other relevant football dept roles at the club open and anyone interested in applying can contact Anthony McDonald on 04077183030 or amcdonald@aflq.com.au
