Match report from a blues perspective:
The Blues got the early game for the first time this year and luckily the gale force wind predicted held off for the whole game.
With 24 guys at training on Wednesday only 18 of them could start and many of the clubs more experienced members started oin the bench if they didnt train.
The starters got off by dominating possession but innaccuracy on the scoreboard didnt take advantage of the amount of ball we had. Majors to Burgess and Fisher later in the quarter gave the Blues a lead though the eagles scored an easy one right before the siren with all defenders caught up too far from goal.
With 31 players turning up some major rotations had already begun and some of the more experienced players came on for their first run. Frewen was dominating in the ruck to Bowden, Burgess was creating leads, Morgan was crumbing and most players were competitive or winning against their opponent. Once again a couple of easy goals late to the eagles narrowed the margin.
Third quarter had the eagles with the slight wind advantage and they attacked fiercely. A brilliant solo goal from Morgan will be long remembered but attacking opportunities were few while the defenders were kept busy with hoards of eagles flodding the forward line unmarked. They had narrowed the margin to less than 4 goals by threee quarter time but that was it for their run at a win.
Q4 saw the Blues dominate in the middle again with long kicking making the most of the wind and relieving pressure in defence. Multiple goal scorers popped up and it was a strong finish to a tough match even though the final score of 13 14 92 to 6 9 47 made it look like a blowout.
Once again we were shafted by the wind after giving 110% the whole match. best on ground for the Eagles were: Andy Jordan, Dane Hart, Chris Morel and Andy Howison.
Goal Scorers: Sweaty, Simon, Howie, Grizz
