Having noticed a problem with the midfield following the loss to Broadview two weeks ago Coach Travis McKenzie restructured things with the additions of Manny Matata and Captian Adam Paterson coming into the side and things looked remarkably different in the lead up to this match. "Don't get pushed around and beaten at the contest" were the words ringing in the players ears. It was a different mentality and it showed as the Roos dominated from the outset but were not able to put scoreboard pressure on early scoring 4 straight points. The Hawks took their solitary chance and kicked the 1st goal of the game. Chris Haesler broke the goal drought at the 11 minute mark when he strolled thru the half forward line and kicked long to get the Roos on the board. The flood gates were open and goals followed quickly over the final 8 minutes from Justin Rigney and Robert Sears who kicked 2 and was providing the tall target deep in the forward line. The Roos by 24 points at the end of the 1st.
A good start but more was needed and it didn't take long. Chris Kranz kicked 2 goals within a minute after 5 minutes following some great work in the ruck from Manny Matata that fed his midfields with quality ball. Big Manny Matata kicked 1 of his own after gathering a loose ball at the 50 meter arch and kicked truley. The Hawks were constantly on the back foot and although they had kept OAFL leading goal scorer Travis Mckenzie goaless had noone that could stop the others in the Kangaroos forward line. They did manage to add 2 goals of their own but the margin had blown out to a 34 points at the long break.
At the 9 minute mark of the 3rd quarter Travis McKenzie finally broke free from all the attention he was getting and kicked his 1st for the day after a strong contested mark. This was followed by Chris Haesler who kicked his 2nd, Robert Sears his 3rd and Chris Kranz his 3rd and the Roos were running riot across the ground with sheer numbers and hardness at the ball. This was evident from Captian Adam Paterson who set the standard with his hardness at every contest and his willingness to beat any opponent that got in his way. The Kranz brothers Chris and Michael were also were guiding beckons as they showed the ability to run and attack looking for handballs that would break the lines and enable the Roos to get the ball in deep to the forwardline where the Roos big men of Matata, McKenzie, Wingrove and Sears were troubling the Hawks smaller backmen. The Roos had incresed their lead to 57 points after 3 quarters.
The word at the break was put the foot to the throat of the Hawks and finish their season. Coach McKenzie set it up right from the bounce kicking his 2nd with a brillant right foot snap from the boudary line and the flood gates opened. Chris Kranz kicked his 4th while youngster Riyad Karacic took a handball from McKenzie to kick long from 45 out. Club veteren Phil Russo was put forward in the 3rd quarter to rove to the big men and kick a couple and after taking time to adjust to the faster pace of the Div 1 after playing in div 2 earlier, found his form and kicked 2 goals within a minute. One of which was a great around the corner snap. McKenzie rounded out the day with his 3rd at the 19 minute mark and the Roos and completely smashed the Hawks to send them tumbling out of the finals race and wondering where it all could go from here as they look towards 2011.
The Etobicoke boys home by 79 points, a turn around of 104 points from the previous 2 weeks. They now take on the Central Blues next week in the 2nd Semi final to see who will go straight thru to the Grand FInal on Oct 2nd.

Division 2 Results:
The Div 2 boys have come back from a 21 point deficit at 3/4 time to pull of a great 6 point victory. The Roo boys struggled in the 1st half with the quick ball movement of the Hawks but things changed after half time with the movement of Phil Russo and Nick McKinley into the midfeild and Greg Everett to the forward line. The Roos took on the Hawks and out ran them but couldn't capitalise during the 3rd quarter but the feeling in the camp with 12 minutes left was that the fitness of the Roos would win over the Hawks. With Russo and McKinley controlling the center it was left to Everett and Kent Billings to provide the targets up forward
and they didn't disappoint as the marked everything that came there way and kicked enough goals to get the boys ove rthe line by 6 points.
