The Lismore Swans have fallen short of premiership success going down to the Tweed Coast Tigers. The Swans have struggled to match the Tigers all year but today gave it a red hot go to only go down in the final quarter.
The Tigers kicked the opening goal however the Swans intensity made it difficult for the Tigers to play their normal game as Jak Johnson kicked the Swans third goal of the first term after the siren to take a two goal lead into the first break.
The Swans kept pushing in the second term to stunn the Tigers supporters as Lismore took a 15 point lead into the main break. Timmy Piper produced some brilliant inspirational smothers as did play maker Eddie Burton.
The Swans expected the Tigers to come out fighting in the third term and that they did, and when Eddie Burton went down with a shoulder injury early in the third term, the Swans were severly hurt as Eddie was the main man in clearing the ball out of the midfield. The Tigers capitalised on the gap kicking 4 goals to 1 and taking a 6 point lead into the final break.
The Swans held on in the final term with only 10 points the difference with 7 minutes to go however a Tweed goal destroyed the Swans efforts as the Tigers rallied with another couple of late goals.
All in all very proud of the Swans performance, the boys turned around the season 3 weeks ago when they needed to defeat Byron in the final home & away match to make the finals which they did. This win was followed by a huge 64 point win over Byron in the semi final then a brilliant 113 point win over Ballina in the preliminary final to make the grand final. All the players should be very proud of their efforts and hope to keep the group all together as a unit for 2011.
Best on the day were Eddie Burton, Tim Piper, Jason Bevan, Daniel Moloney, Alex Aitken, Rhys Lavery
Goals went to George Massa and Darren Moncrieff with 2 each, and singles were kicked by Jak Johnson, Matt Meadows, Wesley Seewald and Ethan Lenson
