Nowhere in the world does a father-son rule exist in sports, besides Aussie Rules Football, here in Australia. It is unique and one of the most traditional rules of our great game dating back to 1950.
Until now, collectors have been starved of a footy card featuring a Father-Son tandem.
This will change on Sunday, 5th September 2010 at 8pm when Footycards.com.au will release through its website the very first Father-Son card featuring Tim Watson and Jobe Watson.
Only 50 individually-numbered cards will be available to purchase. Each card will be hand-signed by Tim Watson, former Essendon Captain, 4-time B&F Winner and 3-time Premiership player and his son, Jobe Watson, current Essendon Captain and 2009 B&F Winner. In the 2002 AFL Draft, Jobe was selected at pick 40 under the father-son rule.
What does the card industry and collectors have to say?
“I have been asking for father-son cards for many years and finally one is about to be released. A card that shows the past & present, together. What a great idea!”
John Crennan, AFLtcc.com.au
"A different release that’s long overdue. It provides the astute collector with something legitimately limited to add to their collection.
Dave Devine, long-time WAFL & AFL collector
“A great concept that has yet to be done, until now and football fans and collectors are acutely aware of modern-day players, but there a number of past father-son combinations where a legacy can be created.”
Mario Lopo, Gardenvale Collectables
For those unlucky to miss out on the dual-signed card, Footycards.com.au will be providing a variation of the card (only 250 unsigned cards produced) as a complimentary item with orders over $10 from the 5th September while stock lasts.
