East Malvern Youth Girls selected for Inaugural Under 18 Youth Girls Championships

We are delighted to report that our Youth Girls have been selected for the Inaugural AFL Under 18 Youth Girls Championships.

Unlike the competition that our very own Alicia Eva was selected for over the past 2 seasons which was administered by AFL Vic, the 2010 Championships will be administered and conducted directly by the AFL and now has equivalent status as the Under 18 Boys Championships where many of the AFL draftees were on display in September last year.

In terms of significance ranking, it is well above State School Boy / Girl (Administered by School Sports Victoria), AFL Vic Metro Championships teams (administered by AFL Vic, MSJFL, YFL or WJFA).

Over 170 Youth Girls were invited to the selection trials & we are delighted that we had 4 girls selected which indicates the talent that East Malvern JFC has nurtured in three years. On top of that, East Malvern has been successful with our first year Coach, Alicia Eva, being appointed as the Assistant Eastern Division Metropolitan Championships Coach and Assistant Coach to the Victorian Team which is also a precedent and only possible through the support of the EMJFC over 10 years in having a policy of inclusion for ALL junior footballers.

The EMJFC initiated a talented players pathway program this season with an aim to have more players achieve selection in Metro Championship Squads, U18 TAC Squads, play in State Representative teams etc. Im sure this will be very successful in years to come with more EMJFC players being selected for elite squads.

On another note, a number of our players will be involved in a photo shoot with the Premier – John Brumby, to launch the AFL Championships, this Thursday.

Also making news is the jumper presentation evening to be held at Windy Hill on September 1^st.

Finally, Alicia has been nominated for the best First Year VWFL Player award to be announced at the VWFL Presentation Night on 2^nd September. She has a 1 in 8 chance!!
