The Tweed Coast Tigers have secured their first Minor Premiership
in the Summerland League after downing Nimbin Demons in the last game of the
home and away season at Round Mountain on Saturday.
The Tigers finished the home and away season with an unprecedented
17 wins straight and a 27 goal drubbing of a spirited Nimbin outfit topped up with
some of the Potty Locals.
This season has been a fantastic effort by the Committee,
volunteers and players to secure a Minor Premiership in only the Clubs second
year, however it would be an injustice for the team not to go the extra
distance and take out the title, so all focus is now on the first Semi Final
this Saturday v Ballina at Lismore. The Tigers have been steely and determined
to remain humble and focus on one game at a time and this will be the plan from
here on.
On Saturday the Tigers used the game v Nimbin as an opportunity
to continue the development of the game plan with consistent and hard pressure
on the ball followed by running and delivery to the forwards, who have capitalize
all season finding the big sticks.
With up to 6 of the Tigers resting it was a good chance for
players to find some good form leading into the finals.
There were quality performances across the park with Strope,
Ash, Arnie, Johno, Jimmy and Bones all contributing from the middle. Coach for
the day Jai opted for a rotational policy which allowed some of the backs to
sneak up front with Timmy, Arty, Peaches and Westy all finding the big sticks.
With 3 of the forwards all vying for Tigers leading goal
kicker it was left to Bolty to take the title with another 10 goal performance
which took him ahead of resting forwards Jacob & Roundy. Other players to
get amongst the goals included Ash, Arnie, Nugget and Jimmy all with 3 a piece.
Big thanks to Nimbin for their spirited performances all
year and hats of to the Potty boys who have played the last part of the season
for the Demons. We hope to see a bigger stronger Nimbin outfit next year.
A great way to finish the home and away season, but now all
attention moves forward to the training track this week and the Major Semi at
Oakes Oval this Saturday v Ballina.
Thanks to all the volunteers, Tigers support staff and the
home crowd for their great support.
