With the last home and away game this Saturday 21st August, some of the Warriors can’t wait for a well deserved break. Unfortunately the mighty 4th Grade Kookas will be continuing training as usual, after just completing a mandatory City2Surf, as big Lukey Gemmil still has many tyres for them to push up the hill. The star from Dumb and Dumber has tried to use the cruel-to-be-kind approach this season, but with numbers declining at training and a rise in hospital sign-in’s on Saturday’s, big Lukey may need to rethink his strategy to become a bit more hands on the ball and less on the show Gladiators!
“C for Captain” Chappo has done well and even showed that he is willing to give everything a go, even bouncing the ball on a rainy day. Glasgow has been limited with the games he has played and he has found it hard to balance his look-a-like appearances and football.
The 18s have had a great season, to have played a season with low numbers and still be in finals contention until the 2nd last round is a great effort. Considering having hypnotist Sully at the top of the chain, this is an even more remarkable effort.
The Girls side, spearheaded by the silent-but-violent Kim, have really improved as the season has gone on. Also with dropping numbers, they have still managed to get down to training every week and get their hair wet unlike some of the guys in the 3’s side. They are not far away from a win, if not this season but next, and no they will not be singing my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.
Scoular’s thirsty thirds have had a very up and down season, with huge wins against bottom sides but only a hand full of wins against sides around the same position or higher than them. Somehow through Matty’s faith they will play finals, real plusses have been Stapo who has modelled himself on his boyfriend Stix, Addo putting his teeth in and taking a plunge into ruck duties, Jockey continuing to think the odd punch here and there is acceptable and Goo continuing to make sure he say’s some sort of speech every game wether it makes sense or not.
Buster’s 2s have also had an up and down season. With 1’s being selfish and picking and dropping players whenever they feel has meant that Buster has pretty much had a different side every week and we have all seen Buster after a warm up lap - playing/coaching is not that easy when you are out of breath!
Disappointment of the season definitely has to go Chris No-Show-Bascher, who has been seen mapping his rides on Facebook, in waiting rooms to get warts removed from his foot, dinner with his girlfriend, completing half ironman’s - everywhere but the footy field.
On the plus side congratulations to David Marsh who has made it through the season, without yelling “help”.
Lastly, DK's 1 continue on about their business with the odd loss here and there, stealing players from 2’s & 3’s, but looking a good shot at possibly another premiership! With promising players such as Bourkey really stepping up, Rig putting his engagement behind him and now just tripping over at training, Donnie still day dreaming about his Asian adventures and a search warrant is still out for ex-captain Carter Mullins.
In general it has been a very enjoyable and successful season, everyone is ready for a break and sick of hearing Nathan Jackson ”I have been told I shouldn’t be playing but I still do…”
Bring on footy trip.
