Lawless performing at his best.

Ainslie’s Michael Lawless has been enjoying his best
football for the season, featuring in the team’s best four times in the past
five weeks.
With Ainslie powering towards the finals, now is the time
for the players to stand up and put in their best performances. Lawless says he
has been pleased with how everyone has really stepped up towards the business
end of the season.
“I’m very happy with how I’ve been playing, but the team
has stepped up too and everyone has been putting in their best efforts week in
week out”.
Ainslie started off the season slowly, but have proved in
the second half of the season that they are genuine contenders for the
premiership that eluded them last season.
“We are feeling pretty confident; we had a good win on
the weekend. Obviously we had a bit of a hiccup against Belconnen a few weeks
ago but we’ve been playing good footy and are happy at our form this close to
the finals”.
“We always knew we’d be near the top of the ladder. We
recruited well this season and had a strong preseason and we knew our list
would be strong this year”.
Ainslie came within five points of the flag season,
finishing runner-up against Belconnen in a down to the wire Grand Final. However, Lawless said that the heartbreak of
last season wouldn’t be affecting their preparation in September.
“I think last year’s loss gave the boys some valuable
experience and it makes us want it that little bit more, but we aren’t focusing
on it. We just need to play how we know we can play”.
Ainslie will face off with strong finals contender
Queanbeyan this weekend Lawless said it was an important game for the boys, but
said that if the team performed at their best they could beat any team. “It’s
going to be a big game but we are pretty confident”.
“We just need to concentrate on what we know we can and
our own game plan and the scoreboard should take care of itself”
