Horney's Hordes went through an
extensive pre-season and grading process before making their debut in Div 1
football this year.
This season has been a big learning
curve for the boys against much bigger bodies in general and to make the finals
after finishing the home and away in 4th position (8 wins and 7 losses) has
been a good effort.
Earlier on in the season a top two
position was being sought but a cruel run of season ending injuries to
Bergin, Dickinson, Emonson and Fletcher and prolonged absences from a few
other boys has made the second half of the season much tougher. Missing some
big bodies has meant that some Under 13 boys have had a chance to strut their
wares. And against some huge teams in Oakleigh and Hampton the U13 boys have
performed very well.
Coach Peter Horne goes
into the first semi this Sunday against East Brighton with a one win two loss
record for the season so far. But the previous games will count for
nothing this Sunday in what is expected to be a high standard game.
There appeared to be much
"foxing" going in for the second half of the game last Sunday and
they appear confident that if the boys can play their best football this Sunday
they can definitely go on the Preliminary Final next weekend.
Good
luck boys.
