he Mt Burr Market Day is held annually on the last Sunday in October at the picturesque Mt Burr oval. This year it was a cold day again but it did not deter the stall holders or the visitors. Stall holders said takings were nearly as good as last year even though visitor numbers were down slightly.
Mount Burr Football Club president, Wayne Fennell said, “Several hundred people enjoyed our annual market day. It is a credit to the local people who make and bring their produce and stalls regardless of the weather conditions."
The Market Day started at 10.00am and continued until after 3. Many people enjoyed the cuppacino and scones for morning tea and the sizzling hot BBQ for lunch. The steak supplied by Beachport Quality Butchers is always superb. The band played after lunch for several hours and people stood by the fire and enjoyed the local talent.
The stall holders were based around the northern side of the Mick & Jean Walker Oval and shared their wares and curios with inquisitive barterers. Home-made foods and home grown produce were a feature. The mandatory bric-a-brac and car boot type stalls were there were many healthy garden plants ready for the spring garden for sale. The kids enjoyed having their faces painted and eating the fairy floss and toffee apples. A new stall for the day were the pony rides that were a treat for many of the children.
