As the season rapidly draws to a close it seems appropriate to thank most sincerely all our time keepers, scoreboard attendants, gate keepers, raffle ticket sellers, boundary umpires, team managers and runners, trainers, canteen and tea ladies. Saturdays would not happen without you all.
Thank you all to all our numerous sponsors. Big or small your contributions are all very valued. Our club could not function without your support and we hope our supporters remember to look to you first when doing business.
This Saturday night we have The Rebecca McLaughlin Band playing at the club. It is our last home match for the season so stay around and enjoy a couple of home grown very talented musicians. Sunday is our Family Day and our very own legends will entertain us both on the netball court and on the footy field. The day starts at 11am and there will be a BBQ lunch, so come on out and make a day of it. It will be an opportunity to catch up with lots of club people who we don’t always see at the club.
Last week we headed out to Mt Burr and the Junior Colts continued their form with another good win. Final Results were Hath 13.11 (89) def Mt Burr 2.1 (13). Award winners were Thomas Chant (John Cav’s), Brett Watson ( Pete Walters), James Gilbertson (Gary Nilsson), Rory Whittaker (HFC Ladies Committee) and Luke Green (Hath Sp&Rec Steak).
The Senior Colts put in another solid performance with many players contributing. The awards went to Cameron Slape, Brodie Davis, Dylan Clough, Seamus Mullins, Kieren Agnew and Sam Telfer. Tom Schultz, Aden Bell, Fergus Slape and Tom Waring all had good games. Looking forward to another strong performance in our last game at home.
As the old saying goes "A week is a long time in football". In The Reserves we went from a team that was willing to work hard and play for our team mates to a team that wasn't prepared to work hard, a team that was prepared for someone else to do the hard work and a team that was quite happy to watch their opponent beat them to the ball. With limited winners on the ground we were resoundly beaten by a team charging into the finals. Charlie again did his best to break himself in half and was clearly our best and Rodders and Gibbo once again battled hard in what was a pretty hard day for a backman. We had to again call on some senior colts and they again showed they are more than capable to play at this level. Award winners were Justin Winter (K&S Ampol, Scott Redman (Dave Reilly’s), Matt Ballantyne (Grand Hotel), Michael Gibson (Beachport Hotel) and Keiren Agnew (Sharp Shooters Paintball). Today we host the 'Roosters' in what is our last home game so let's get back on the winners list and show our supporters what we are capable of! Good Luck. (Also good luck to all players in tomorrows legends game.)
Taking on Mt Burr last Saturday in the A Grade was always going to be a big task and on a big day for their club they showed us early why they are a top two side. Our first half was a bit up and down playing well in patches but when we relaxed we gave the opposition to much room and their running in numbers made it difficult for our backline with the tough task of trying to cover all the loose players. With the rain coming down heavy after half time it was a real wet weather slog in the last two quarters but to the boys credit they did not give up and continued to put their body over the ball. Fitz, Trav and Slapey in the backline had great games in the wet, these boys worked hard all game repelling the ball many times and without them the scoreboard could have been even worse. Highlight of the second half must be mentioned and goes to Bowie and the perfect barrel goal he kicked with the heavy ball. Award winners were Mat Faulker (Somerset), Sam Fitzgerald (Beachport Hotel), Travis Kneen (Millicent Golf), Matt Fabris (Bompas), Saxon Ellis (Prince of Wales) and Cameron Slape (Sharp Shooters Paintball). Looking towards the last two games for the year we have a real chance to finish with two wins but these will not come easy and will need to be earnt so lets work hard to finish the year off well.
Apologies for no notes making the budget last week! Not sure what happened there, but mention must be made to another one of our talented juniors, Tom Schultz, on his first senior game the previous week at the age of 15. He capped of the game kicking a great goal and having many more telling touches, showing he is going to be a great footballer for the many years to come and has a big future ahead.
We will be hosting the preliminary final (Sept 11) this year so have a think about what times you will be available to help and contact Matt Ballantyne, Sara Gray or Kinga in the near future.
Another reminder - the Junior forum will be held on Wednesday August 18th - have you let Loretta know if you will be attending?
