The
day Robbo came to training…..
Last
Friday was the last day of training for the U10 Reds & Coach Scotty Duane
wanted to finish the season on a high. What better way then to have a father & son training session where
all the boys could enjoy training with all their dads while the mums enjoyed
the hilarious sight from the boundary. I say hilarious because some of the dads (yours included) really should
have accepted they no longer fit into their old footy jumpers they wore with
pride all those years ago (like 20 years ago for some).
That
said, it was a fantastic time for all involved. For one of our players for personal reasons, Coach Scotty
wanted to make this training session extra special. With his focus now locked on, Coach was on the phone with Club
Stalwart & good mate Paul Connors.
Before
you could say Bulldogs will be Premiers this year (God I hope so), Paul had secured the services of the
great Russell Robertson, the former Melbourne Football Club great who played
223 games for the Club & was renowned for taking spectacular marks.
I
understand Robbo made quite an impression on our very special & talented
Georgie based on Georgie needing to role up his jaw when he saw who was in the
car with Scotty. These are very
special moments that remind us why tight community based football clubs are so
important & that when ugly on incidents between parents, players,
spectators & umpires do occur, it tarnishes the greatness of what makes
community football clubs great.
With
Robbo’s arrival now evident on all the boys, Robbo took the boys through their
paces. I don’t know if it was just
me but was there more mothers at
training than usual? And why did
all these mothers suddenly produce long lense cameras? And why were they all pointed in the
direction of Robbo & not the dads who wore their old & somewhat tight
footy jumpers with such pride? Ah
well, can you really blame them when you see someone like Robbo who’s still got
it, even though he’s no longer playing AFL footy?
Special
thanks must go to Paul Connors for organizing. While I know Paul wouldn’t like me saying this but I
will anyway. As a Club &
Community, we are very lucky to have Paul as part of our Club & Community
as he does so much behind the scenes & does so without wanting any acknowledgement. On behalf of the U10 Reds & the
EMJFC, thanks Paul.
Finally, special thanks must also go to Coach Scotty who has done a stella job this year as Coach & for also making the last training session a very special one.
Go Knights.
