In cool but pleasant conditions for footy, the Under 17’s kicked off with a win. The 1st quarter set up the game for them, and while at times the play was not pretty to watch, with a lot of skill levels, they were able to keep the scoreboard ticking over and this was enough to give them a valuable 4 points. This still keeps them in 5th spot with 2 games to go. Best Players: C. Jones, M. Kent, C. Bice, J. Reddish, J. Russell, B. Tanner
The 2’s had another good win in what was a very close game all day. With the Mounts team the only side in the top 5 we had not beaten, the challenge was there for the boys to show they were up to it and to keep the momentum going as we head towards the finals. With the scores level at ½ time, it was a matter of which team could break away and to the boy’s credit, in the vital 3rd quarter they scored 4 goals to Mts 1 pt, and while the Mts boys came back strong in the last quarter; the Hillies had done enough to earn the points. It was a credit to all the boys to run the game out, as we had no interchange for the whole game which for a team going into the finals is not good enough. Darren, who has been working hard with the 2’s over the last few years, deserves more respect, then to turn up on the Saturday and find some players cannot play. If this team is really taking the upcoming final series seriously it is a must that if you cannot play, you let Darren know by the Thursday night you are unavailable (and that means talking directly to Darren, not through a 3rd party) Best Players against Mts were: Bowlesy, Andy, Wallis, Locky, Jordo & Poops
The Seniors knew the importance of their game, but were unable to come away with a win. It would be fair to say the Mts boys were a bit more desperate then out boys and this was the main difference. Even though it was a close game all day, we never really got the chance to control the way the game was played. The boys had a purple patch for about 10 minutes in the 3rd quarter to bring them back to within 2 goals, but Mts responded with 2 late goals of there own to make it a 4 goal difference at 3 qrt time. The team certainly had their chance in this quarter kicking 5.4 to Mts 6 straight, and as they say “bad kicking is bad footy” and this was their undoing, with no side dominating the last quarter and the difference remaining at the 4 goal margin . So the battle continues for the 5th spot between the Hillies and Mts, and the challenge is now there to win at least one of their last 2 games against the top 2 sides to cement this spot. Best Players: Bravo, Sean, Curts, Dave, Frecker & Matty
