With the conclusion of the final
round of matches of the 11th Landmark Australian Country Football
Carnival in Canberra the All-Australian Team was announced at the Closing Ceremony at the Ainslie
Football Club. Six
ACT players were named in the side of which three were from Ainslie.
Marcus Crook (Ainslie) and
Matthew Hearn (Ainslie) were named in the half back line after strong
defensive performances for the ACT throughout the country football
carnival particularly on Day 1 that saw the ACT win all three of their
games.
Ben Hughes (Ainslie) was
named in the forward line having had a successful Carnival that saw him
finish third in the Leading Goal Kicker Awards for the Carnival with 11
goals.
The other ACT players named were ACT Captain, James
Kavanagh (Queanbeyan), Chad Gibson (Eastlake) and Griffin Underwood (Belconnen).
Ainslie's Marcus Crook was
also named the J.J Lussick Medallist for Best Player of the Carnival as
voted by the umpires. An honour that came as quite a surprise to the
unexpecting Crook.
Finishing the Carnival on
a high the ACT defeated
Queensland by 108-points winning 25.9 (159)
to 8.3 (51) to finish in 3rd position. Victoria finished in 1st position when it defeated South Australia 23.13 (151) to 9.12 (66).
