Presistant rain throughout the day had the OAFL experts predicting it would even up the match for the Toronto Rebels but the Kangaroos had other ideas as they welcomed the Kranz brothers Chris and Michael who would begin their careers in Royal Blue and White.
Only a 2 man Aussie bench would be available for Saturday, so the Canadians would need to wordk hard but look to rest where possible so that they could go the whole game with no rest.
The Roos were looking for a quick start and they got that thru their midfield of Manny Matata, Chet Long , Bryce Marshall and Mark Storey. Their ball movement into the forward line was giving the Rebels backman headaches and providing Roos key forwards of Travis McKenzie and Justin Rigney with all kinds of scoring chances. The boys banged on 3.6 for the term to lead by 18 points at the 1st break.
The Kranz Brothers were making an impact with their slick handball and pin pont passing skills while MIke Langner who always plays better when he brings his dad to a game was killing them across the half back line displaying dry weather football skills even though it was bucketing down. Chris Haelser and Ben Watts continuly ran the ball thru the lines and when it wne tforward Graham Hooey would whip out a handball for Mckenzie to run onto and kick truley. The Rebels had no answer for McKenzie who marked the wet ball with ease. The Roos up by 41 points at the half.
With a half time lead of 41 points going into the Premiership quarter Coach Curran asked more of the same in the second half. Coach Curran got that and more as the Roos used the wet weather conditons better than anyone would think possible as they slammed on 8 goals to 2 in a dominate 40 minutes of football. Lead by McKenzie who finished with 8 and Justin Rigney who nailed 3 out of the teams 17 goals provided great value for money to those assembled to watch the game in the pouring rain.
The Roos home by 88 points.
