Sunny skies have greeted our footballers for the round 14 action, and will ensure our marquee looks sensational for the Red And Black Ball. But before the fun of the ball, there are games of football to play.
At Drummoyne Oval, the seniors got off to a quick start with an early goal to Ben Attwood but it was slow going against a determined Balmain side. The Bombers had plenty of opportunities, but too many turnovers on the half forward line cost them dearly; and they were unable to add another goal for the quarter and led by just 3 points at quarter time.
A quick-fire double to Kieran Emery midway through the second term ensured the Bombers would stay in front, but it was generally uninspiring football with too many costly turnovers. At half time the lead was 20 points.
The third quarter was more open and high-scoring, but was again a display below the Bombers' optimum standard. But the Bombers still won the quarter, taking a 27-point lead into the last change. Coach Rohan Graham was far from impressed in his three-quarter time address, but there was to be no dramatic lift in the last quarter as the Bombers played out time.
The win was enough to ensure the Bombers will be playing finals football in 2010, but the lack of a percentage boosting performance could potentially cost the Bombers the double-chance.
Final Score - North Shore 14.10 (96) def Balmain 9.3 (63)
Meanwhile, the First Division team at Pittwater had put on a strongperformance. The Manly seniors are never an easy assignment, but the Bombers worked hard all day to pull off a strong performance and one that all but ensures all three grades will be taking part in finals action in 2010.
Final Score - North Shore 11.6 (72) def Manly-Warringah 6.8 (44)
