Well, what a windy weekend!!!! Great additions to percentages, for both Seniors and Reserves with my highest praise going to the Reserves who managed 24 goals 7 behinds in unpredictable conditions. If they had won with 7 goals 24 behinds I would still have felt as proud. The Seniors scoreline of 20 goals, 22 behinds stated an expected ratio of goals and behinds under the conditions.
These results remind me of the contributions from club members. Let’s see goals as giving to the club and behinds as taking from the club. Some members, (like the Seniors results) give fifty/fifty and are there for both themselves and the club. Some, (like the Reserves results) work very hard and give more than they take. Officials in the club welcome either type of these members most, and they are the rarest to find.
Some members unfortunately give almost nothing and take without acknowledgement. Sixty-two of our 101 players have not even started making a payment towards their fees. As the club had stated all fees needed some payment before round six, for players to continue getting a game, if we kept our word, this would mean we could only field one team, with a choice of 39 players since round six. Not all of these 39 have completed payments, but my congratulations go to them for addressing the situation.
Players have had payments information since February, and each person has been informed as they joined the club. We offered a weekly payments system, which could have seen many accounts paid before the season even started. We asked anyone in hardship to come and talk to me (President Roslyn). None of this has brought about the required result. It is now a fact that players will not be picked for finals, unless they are addressing the fees owed!
A reminder also, that shorts and socks are not free. Jumpers remain the property of the club and will be required by others when you are unavailable, please try to return them to the club or I will come and collect them if notified. Jumpers cost $50 each and it takes four weeks from order date. Highett FC has grown quickly and many players do not have a “personal” jumper, so we need them for the persons who play each week.
Maybe we fail to make the rules clear and I am sorry if this is the case, however I believe each and every sporting club would have fees that need to be paid. Please become a full member of our great family club. Whoever you are, we love having you around and want you to stay, with your head held high, as a full member of Highett Football Club.
On a much lighter note, the Comedians on Saturday night were brilliant and the large crowd laughed loud and long. Some, me for one, laughed until it hurt. What a reminder of how important laughter is in our lives. I would love to thank the Comedians, but can’t remember the whole of their names, so to Des Dowling, Caulfield Football Club Captain Tom Siegart, Troy Kinne and Dom ???.
The next evening is Richo’s Band Night, a fundraiser for the Footy Trip, on July 24.
