Wintry, stormy conditions greeted us last week with strong winds and rain for most of the day. Yet, we got out of it alright, winning three out of four games against our arch rival Kongorong. Congratulations to Megan and Adam on the birth of their little junior colt, Taj Wilson. A brilliant night back at the club, with the band and Jason Smith’s 30th. The players and supporters filled the place, making it a very successful night. Congratulations to the organisers. Also, congratulations to Ben Wilson, playing his 200th Senior game this week. Another home game this week, this time Kalangadoo. Let’s go Demons!!
Junior Colts: What a wet windy day at the Bay with 5 players till away. We played with one short but due to our keenness for the ball, we kept Kongorong to no score. The conditions weren’t good, raining the whole game but the boys played really well. Best players for the day were Tom Sullivan, Lachie Tilley, Riley Chant, Jordan Stark and Tom Feast. Go you little Demons.
Senior Colts: After last week’s effort , the emphasis was on maintaining the same standard. Our game plan changed from chip and run to just kick it long in what was very ordinary weather. The contest was always going to get back to which team wanted it the most as there was always going to be many hard ball contests. The boys started really well and were certainly throwing everything into the contest. Half time saw us with the lead of a couple of goals. The third quarter the boys continued to work hard into the wind and we were in a prime position to finish strongly, trailing by less than a goal. To Kongorong’s credit they showed what desperate footy was and managed to take the game by a couple of goals. Two weeks in a row of being close yet not getting over the line has really put the pressure on to make every game a must win if we have any chance to make finals.
B Grade: With 9 in a row, now the boys are playing good footy. It is looking good this year for the finals. Muffin (Izak Ransom) with his great tagging performance stands out every week. Matt Byrne ran all day with Nummy (Scott Lucas), Goody (Brendan Goodman) and Shano (Shane Grosvenor) and showing good work in the middle. Paul Millard was strong in the back line. The boys played well today. To Stephen Devine; next time, it would be good to have petrol in the car BEFORE you leave home – Onya mate.
A Grade: Yet again at the Bay, the game against the old foe, Kongorong, didn’t disappoint. The game started at a fair pace and stayed that way for most of the game in what can only be described as terrible conditions.
At the final siren the Bay emerged victorious with a 9 point win. Best went to Ben O’Dine with a typical tough effort. Working all around the field, second best went to big Will (MacDonald), who in any weather doesn’t seem to drop a mark. Third went to Martos (Matt Martin), who missed last week’s game but found plenty of the ball all day. Other mentions went to Ryno (Ryan Fox), Bozzy (Paul Bosko), Tobei (Kennett), Dexel (Steve Noble), and Ducky (Damien O’Dine) in what was a very good team’s effort! Keep kicking boys!!
