The Roos take on the Hamilton Imperials at Malseed Park this weekend, after a close loss to traditional rival North Gambier last weekend.
In what proved to be a close match, West went into the clash for the Tom Hall trophy with a number of regulars missing due to work commitments, family commitments and injury. The lead changed up to 8 times during the first three quarters, a solitary point the difference at the last change, it promised to be an enthralling finish. However it did not prove to be the case as North’s coach, ex-Glenelg player, Justin McConnell took the game away from the Roos, kicking four of his five goals in the last quarter. The West boys tried hard but could only manage the one goal to eventually go down by 19 points.
Nic Martin kicked 3 goals, as did Jacka Ryan and a number of single goal kickers, best players were Steve Wenman, Tommy Holmes, Bobby Bouchier and Little Hooker.
This week’s game should see the boys back on the winners list, with a couple of players back after the last weekend’s break due to SA Country Championships. The ruck stocks may be bolstered with Stewie McLaughlin and possibly “Roo” McElroy returning to the field, Kayne O’Brien will return to add some extra run from defence and Ollie O’Donovan’s injury is progressing enough for his return after 3 games on the sidelines. Luke Davey and Matt Scanlon played in the championships last week and should continue on with their good form.
After the game this week is the Dycer Construction’s Malseed Cup function in the clubrooms, so everyone get dressed up in their finest race-going clothes and head to the track for a fun night of entertainment!
