Another home game for the Redbacks last week and another wet day confronted both sides. The home side was prepared and well rehearsed in the mud but the visitors weren’t ready for the ground conditions or the opposition. The Hills started strong and continued all day to finish with a very big win. Goals came surprisingly easily from different avenues as the South Morang side capitulated to the many forward thrusts.
On-baller Brendan Long played his best game for the Redbacks so far, racking up plenty of possessions all around the ground. Fellow small man Shane Hodgson enjoyed again himself with plenty of the ball as well. John Byron played his usual link role through the middle helping John Garrard to six goals and also picking up a handy 5 goals himself. Steve Northrop continued his good form up forward with 4 goals and Will Box was brilliant once again across half back. The teamwork of the Hills on the small grounds over recent weeks has been fantastic.
They will need to adjust their game plan next game as we travel to the bigger ground against West Heidelberg in order to keep how winning ways as we aim for a spot near the top of the ladder. The Players are also enjoying the support of many of the Vocal locals, past players, family and friends and will again appreciate a BIG supporter base away this week @ West Heidelberg.

RESERVES
Panton Hill’s reserves side were very disappointing at home against South Morang. It felt as though the side had been building significantly in the weeks prior, and coming off a great win the team was pumped to post another win at home. However the hillers lacked teeth in the unfamiliar boggy conditions, and were completely out-played, out-muscled, and out-smarted by the significantly more experienced South Morang outfit. The Hendry boys – Nathan in his first game, and Jason – were the shining lights for the Redbacks. Nathan’s debut was impressive, as he implemented his basketball skills and took some great marks, and kicked some goals, while Jason was at his reliable best in the middle of the ground.
The remainder of the team performed well below their best, and that showed on the lop-sided scoreboard. That result has given the side a lot of motivation to grit their teeth and post a strong result against Heidelberg West this week, at a ground that has been the scene of some great football memories over the past few years for the nucleus of the Redback reserves team.
