UPCOMING LUNCHES - Sponsors Lunch on 24th July and 1961 team,1990,1995 Premiership Reunion Lunch on 7th August
BLOOD BATH BALL - August 21st
The feeling was that a danger game loomed against bottom side Melbourne High. These teams are always a chance if you give them an early "sniff". Fortunately we didn't, with a couple of goals on the board before the plates had been put away from Mase's "informal" luncheon. Indeed the troops were only just getting over the tension of watching the Magoos get the chocolates!
Laz was playing his 100th in the Magenta and Black and this appeared to spur the boys on. Combi showed early that he was in for a good day in his new position, while new boy Jackson Coleman got a couple early to put his mark on the game. So it was a good start that became even better with a very solid second quarter. The throng were reaching for the First Testament as Dougy, "Revelation One" and Al Johnston "Revelation Two" began to assert their authority on the game. Dougy has been a revelation, one because he was no certainty for senior footy early in the year, while Al has been a revelation holding down positions to which he is unaccustomed.
The second half proved a bit pedestrian, with only the occasional piece of resistance from the Unicorns. That probably isn't fair as they were undermanned and could not maintain the intensity. To our guys' credit, they didn't take the foot of the pedal and ensured a percentage boosting victory that has taken us to second on the ladder.
Special mention should be made of Hamish "Hammer" McLauchlan who didn't play on the weekend, thereby ending an outstanding record of 99 senior games in a row. Indeed his 127 consecutive game, the first 28 in the Reserves, equals the club record set by Peter Burke in the 1960s. A fine record Hammer that you should be proud of.

Football is an amazing game sometimes. To think the Reserves would beat the same side by the same margin, of one point, twice during the season is almost comical. Indeed the margin should have been a lot greater. As the scoreboard shows, there were 23 shots on goal to 17, and this illustrates the fact that we were the better side. The boys just have to get accustomed to the winning habit. Now they have the taste, there are going to be more wins around the corner.
Ferg got unfairly ruffled up early by a naive Melb High player and that only spurred him on to a best on ground performance. Ruley was getting plenty of the ball, while Wayne "Rainesy" Smith, made a welcome return to football with a goal from his first kick back. Sec, Lambo and Jonesy were fantastic again to get the team over the line for a deserved victory.

After a slow start, the U/19s got themselves back into the game during the second quarter against the top side. Once again weight of numbers proved their downfall but there were again some promising signs, while their endeavour cannot be questioned. Kingy was fantastic again, while Dalts was amongst the best also.
