Saturday 3 July 2010 may have been a holiday for many at EMJFC, but
not for the 32 Under 11 Knights that arrived at Lucas to battle the visiting
Mosman Swans.
In what was also a first, boys from our Blues, Whites, and Reds had
the chance to play in 2 mixed teams under the watchful eye of Coaches Tony
(General) Phillips and Greg (Wardy) Ward. As far as games go, both teams
performed well and over a combined 8 quarter game proved too strong for the
visiting Swans. Mulcahy, Styles, Ed Ralph, Stephens, Godfrey, Stephenson,
Morrisby, Sutherland, Conron, Phillips, and Johnston were all among the Goal
kickers, so well done to them and to their team-mates who got the ball to them.
In all, some 250 people enjoyed a full, fun-packed day from 10am -6pm
(for the stayers). The day was full of great activities including a vocal
National Anthem by the players; a visit by Melbourne AFL captain James
McDonald; a 50 minute DVD showing pre-game warm-ups, game highlights and
interviews; great BBQ (thanks go to Dan Adaway, Sam Butcher, Denis Ralph,
Lucy Morley, and Sophie Ralph) for the kids; great food (Alva) and Drinks (Bill
and Cheryl); a great fundraising auction for future interstate games
(thanks go to Paul Connors), and the all-important presentation of the perpetual
trophy to the winning Coaches.
A special thanks also to all the 85+ Mosman visitors for making the
trip down south. President Andrew Hurrell said it best when he confirmed this
was all about creating an unforgettable experience for the Kids; and that it
was.
So well done to all on another truly successful event for both Clubs!
Go Knights!
