The Blues came out hard in the second quarter. With Karl Lombardozzi leading the way, the Blues started to win their share of the contested footy and kicked the first two goals of the quarter. The remainder of the second quarter remained an arm wrestle with both half backlines dominating. Haesler and Marshall continued to impress with Manny Matata the most dominant big man on the ground. At half time the Roos hung on to a slender lead.
The second half started much the same as the second quarter; the Blues were getting on top through the midfield with Lombardozzi proving to be unstoppable. Roos Captain Adam Paterson lifted along with Mike Langer but the Roos lost their way and stopped playing the consistent team footy that has been their trademark this year. The Roos still had plenty of individuals doing well but it was a better functioning Blues outfit that was getting on top. The Roos were wasteful in front of goal and struggled for clean possession across half forward.
The last quarter was set up to be an epic battle. Both teams were confident of finishing on top but it was the blues who came out the stronger. They were winning the 50/50 contests and had greater numbers around the loose ball. Their team play through the middle of the ground was catching the Roos out.
At ¾ time; Curran had pleaded with the Roos to play fast running football and to play on at all costs. As hard as the Roos tried the Blues had the answers, Marshall, Paterson and Matata were terrific all night but in the end it was the Blues that finished stronger. Final margin Central Blues by 16 points.
