Highlights for day. Michael Sonsie kicking 11 goals in Colts, Dean Waller not only getting through his first game back for nearly 4 months (pictured left) , but being in the best players. Dan Mendes 50th Senior game, Grant McCarthy once again taking control of the Senior defence after a month out.
The Ladies lunch was a massive success thanks the Angela Miller, her huge band of helpers and wonderful support by the Eagle ladies.

A cold showery day at Vermont with the champagne flowing inside at the Ladies lunch. Henderson replaced Cameron and McCarthy returned from injury. Dean Waller played his first game of the year in the reserves and went well. We remain in 7th spot on the ladder with all sides above us except Blackburn winning. We face an intense three weeks playing Croydon, Balwyn and Scoresby. #At the end of this report check out our high possession rate.
Greig was the punters pal with first goal via Henley. Froud kicked 2 for the quarter with singles to Henley and Siciliano after he barged through the pack. We were getting run off our backline through Rushton, Millhouse, Cullen and Webster. Mullett and Bardon got plenty of the ball. We should have been further infront at ¼ time except for poor finishing. We led 5-8 to 3-0.
In the 2nd term Froud kicked his third and when Kelly kicked two we opened up a 34 point lead but the Bulldogs kicked two late goals and our lead at ½ time was 21 points 8-12 to 6-3. Better players for the half were Rushton, Mullett, Ross, Mendes, Cullen, Bardon and Millhouse.
It was a very uneventful 3rd quarter with the Bulldogs again going defensive with players in one half of the field. We scored 2-5 to 1-3 with goals coming from Della’Quilla after a strong tackle by Froud. Rushton who was busy all day goaled via Greig. At ¾ time we led 10-17 to 7-6.
The Bulldogs must have conceded defeat in the last quarter – rather than open the game up and take their chances they packed our forward line like a suburban train at peak hour. At one stage there were 30 players in one quarter of the ground. Despite this Froud kicked another 2 goals and Kelly kicked his third. Kelly showed some good signs that he may be regaining his old touch. Greig goaled via Millhouse as we recorded a 49 point win. Better players for the half were Rushton, Cullen, Millhouse, Mendes, Ross, Cotchett and Nummy.

Coach’s Comments – We had the lowest number of goals kicked against us for the season – well done to the backline. We laid 23 tackles in the last quarter – we had lots and lots of good efforts today.
RESERVES FINAL SCORE

The reserves were meeting a team without a win and the result was predictable. Two colts players were elevated – Pretto and McAuley. At half time we led 5-10 to 3-0.
Better players for the half were McInerney, Jones, Rogneda and Bull.
After the break we kicked 15 goals to 1. Griffiths and Carrodus dominated the hit outs and Geraghty relished the conditions. Waller looked confident on his knee while Quon showed why he is one of the best marks going around. Better players for the half were Geraghty, Rogneda, Griffiths, Smith and McInerney.
Goalkickers – McInerney 3 with 2 each to McDonald, Smith, Siakavelis, Quon, Bordin and Rogneda with singles to L.Johnson, Jones, Geraghty, Humphrey and Parker.
Coach’s Best Players – Geraghty, Rogneda, Quon, Waller and Siakavelis.
Coach’s Comments – Well done – we ran the game out really well. Blokes got plenty of game time. The 2 colts players McAuley and Pretto did well. The opposition is struggling so lets not get too excited.
COLTS FINAL SCORE

Like the reserves the colts were playing a team without a win and a percentage of 22.
To simplify this report I will list some of the highlights as I saw them.
Unfortunately Chris Thompson copped one high early and left the field with concussion.
Michael Sonsie kicked 11 goals – ok, the opposition wasn’t great but I liked the way he got them. Except for 2 late misses his kicking was terrific.
We have a great investment in the future with Luke Strachan. At only 16 years he did well in the ruck and could be a future senior key position player.
The same can be said for our upper age player in Josh Woolard – at 6 feet 4 he has a bright future.
Xavier Barry-Murphy continues to rule his wing with his poise and disposal.
Joel Baird kicked 5 goals in 8 minutes in the last quarter.
Just about everybody contributed to the massive win with mentions to Wlliams, Castersen, Lawlor, Gannon, Davidson and Symes.
Goalkickers – Sonsie 11, Baird 5, Williams 5 with 2 each to Woolard, Strachan, Yousef, Checkley and Lawlor with singles to Barry-Murphy, Davidson and Johns.
INVICTA PLAY OF THE DAY – SAM WILLIAMS – In the 2nd quarter he marked – short passed – kept on running for the handball and kicked a long goal.
Coach’s Best Players – Williams, Woolard, Sonsie, Moss, McCafferty and Castersen.
Coach’s Comments – Good to see our structures appearing. The opposition was undermanned. We shared the footy to our game plan but our blocks fell away in the last quarter.
