Tigers 22.11 – 144 d Cooly 8.6 – 54
The Tweed Coast Tigers have continued their outstanding form
to trounce Coolangatta by 15 goals at Kirra on Sunday.
This is the second time these 2 teams have met and the
second time the Tigers have beaten Cooly by over 90 points.
In what should off been a home game for the Tigers, both
teams were struggling for numbers and the Tigers started the game with only 1
substitute player. The Tigers have only
played 2 home games this season and this being Round 10 meant the usually
strong home Tigers crowd are starting to wonder when the next home game will
be.
However that didn’t affect their on ground performance and the
Tigers came out of the blocks on fire in the first quarter to lead 8.2 – 50 to
Coolangatta’s 1.2 – 8.
From there it didn’t get any better for the Blues who
continued to persist with a running style of football and consistently paid the
price with the Tigers tackling resembling a rugby match. With a number of the
Tigers squad coming from League and Union backgrounds this is a tactic the
Blues may want to reconsider before the two teams play again. Special mention
for Benny, who nailed 3 quality tackles on bigger players and won 3 holding the
ball penalties.
The Tigers formula for success is fairly simple hard
football through the middle of the park and this was on display Sunday, led by
Wilson dominating the rucking and quality on ball displays from Ash, Johnno,
Jai, Jimmy and of course Arnie. The service to the forwards was formidable and
they took advantage especially Bolty who starred up front against his old club to
kick 8 goals for the day.
Cooly found some form in the 3rd Quarter to kick
4 goals , but the Tigers had the answers to kick 7 and continue to stretch the
led.
All the Tigers players contributed once again in a solid effort
across the park. The back line is on fire with Pepe defying his age to fly high
and often, bamboozling the Cooly forwards by playing in front with courage. Timmy
also presents a major challenge to the opposition forwards and continued his
great form.
Another quality display as the Team heads towards the pointy
end of the season.
