Division 1
Mac Uni Warriors 20.18.138 Defeated West’s 2.7.19
The Warriors took on West’s at home in a must win game to stay in touch of the top 3. We also needed to reverse our Round 1 result in which West’s totally outplayed us for a 5 goal victory.
With the late withdrawal through injury of Donnie Ollington & Mark Rice plus Brad Moore unavailable due to exams it gave us the opportunity to bring up a Division 4 ruckman with only a handful of games under his belt. Matt Bourke had played quite well against UTS for the Div 4 Warriors the week before and the coaches thought he may be able to add something to our big man stocks whilst Kev Jones was away in Thailand.
We wanted to start well and push the margin out early to wrest control of the game away from West’s. After 6 straight behinds we finally got 2 through the middle towards the end of the first quarter and went in 3 goals up. Our midfield were impressive with Dean Connors, Dylan Brogan and Brett Harland all finding a lot of clean ball courtesy of Pat Sobb and the new ruckman Matt Bourke who did not lose a tap all day and finished with two goals.
Scott Cations was lively up forward whilst Leighton Corr & Sammy Lehmann kept driving the ball deep into our forward line off the wing which assisted our strong 2nd quarter and subsequent healthy 7 goal margin at half time. We had not had a big victory all year and this was noted by the Warriors whose 2nd half aim was to continue working hard up the ground to ensure the scoreboard ticked over down forward.
The 2nd half was extremely impressive and allowed us to move a few players around whilst ensuring others got valuable game time & touch after a few weeks out. Luckily our goal kicking accuracy improved immensely and the scoreboard by days end was a 121 point win for the Warriors and some valuable % in the chase for a top 3 spot.
The Warriors now head over to East Coast for a tough Round 11 match with Reserve grade and under 18’s playing in the earlier matches.
Warriors and Kookas!

Division 4
Mac Uni Warriors 15.19.109 defeated Southern Power 4.5.29
Round 10 saw the Warriors return to the traditional home venue after a few weeks away, and after losing a couple on the trot, were keen to atone against the Southern Power.
The first quarter started in typical Warriors fashion, with our on ballers going in hard and really signaling their intent. An early forward thrust saw us bag our first goal in the first minute, but things tightened up a fraction from there as the Power started to show some resistance. Our backline held strong when they were tested, always getting to the front spot as typified by G Stud and Chris Day. A couple more goals allowed us to go into quarter time with a lead of 15 points.
The second quarter started once again as a tight tussle, but we seemed to have the upper hand overall. Plenty of supply into the forward line was giving Butch, Stumpy and Steve no end of opportunities, and every time the ball hit the deck Nipper was there to gather the crumbs. But our radar seemed to be slightly off, kicking 3.5 for the quarter, and a late goal to the Power kept them in it. The score at half time 6.9.45 to 3.3.21.
The third quarter has been somewhat of an Achilles heel for the Warriors in past games but not today, as the Warriors slipped into top gear, playing some enterprising footy. Griz started to dominate the taps and proved his worth around the ground, Gareth started to rack up countless touches and Jockey in the middle had the ball on a string. These factors were only half of the effort though, as our backline continued on its stingy ways, conceding one behind for the quarter in a terrific display. By three quarter time we had managed to stretch our lead to an unassailable 59 points.
The last quarter saw us capitalise on the good work done throughout the game, kicking on to record an 80 point win. Butch kicked 6 for the game, in what was his 3rd bag of 5 or more for the season and led us to another good win. Definitely one of our better games for the season and a huge improvement on our last two games.
