Pines Club Notes Round Ten 2010
That’s one half of the season gone and we find our seniors after being torpedoed four times in a row, slowly sinking. Good to see our reserves holding on to win, the welcome return of Gordo and Stubba who booted 6. It’s with regret that we report on the condition of Jamie Messina who two weeks ago suffered damage to his spleen and was later hospitalized. He currently awaits a decision on the medical procedures required. We wish Jamie a speedy recovery and he and his family wish to thank the club and his teammates for their concern and support. Sadly it is considered that spleen damage generally rules a player never to play again. This may well be the case for Jamie and who being a father with a young family to support, may find the going a bit tough now. The Past Players Group is hoping to hold a fund raising day soon, we’ll keep you posted. Netball on the peninsula is becoming a sport of much interest and although it has been around for many years in some MPNFL areas it really has only got off the ground down this way in the last few. There are 13 clubs, most with two teams playing under the Nepean League banner and they stretch from Edi Asp down to Sorrento and out to Red Hill and all carry the name of their associated footy team. Edi Asp is the only Peninsula League club that supports a netball team. Having played footy in the bush myself, I still recall the whole community turning out for the day and the grunts and groans of the footy game mixed with the shrieks and squeals from the nearby netball courts. A Pines netball team is not an impossibility and would have many benefits for our club and boy, you’ll really hear some shrieks and squeals when the Pines girls come out to play. Welcome to Bonbeach and may the best team win. How do you catch a possum? Set a trap and pull it’s tail.
