Congratulations to Rick Robbins who played his 200th game for the Eagles
last week. Well done also to Ant Driessen for his 100th game and David Green
for his 50th game last week.
Our sponsors are our life line so this week we acknowledge a couple of
sponsors who have supported us for a few years now. Farmers, remember to keep
Nathan Bellinger Hay Contracting in mind for all your hay making needs.
During the wet weather see Grant at Millicent Tyre Centre for your tyre safety
and check out his competitive tyre deals.
Last week saw us play on our home ground against Nangwarry and the Junior Colts game was a forfiet due to a lack of numbers for the Nangwarry
side. The boys still had a kick with a scratch match between two mixed sides.
Best players were Brett Watson (Duckys), James Gilbertson (Pete Walters), George
Treloar (John Cavs), James Barclay (Gary Nilsson), Ben Leopold (HFC Ladies
Committee) and Tyson Bennett (Hath Sp&Rec Steak).
The Senior Colts had a
great day and there was a smile on everyone’s face when they finally got to
sing the club song again. It was good to see the boys get some reward for
effort with 8 goal kickers. Thanks to Tom Chant, Dylan Montouri & James
Gilbertson for helping Nangwarry make a game of it. Chopper was unlucky not to
be in their best players. The awards went to Sam Telfer (Seebohms), Dylan
Clough (John Cav), Tom Schulz (Gary Nilsson), Aden Bell (HFC Ladies Committee),
Tom Waring (Hath Sp&Rec Steak) & Tyler Snook (KAOS). Brodie Davis had a
good game in defense. Let’s hope we see some of this good form over the
coming weeks & maybe get another win. We look forward to taking on Pt Mac
& improving on our last effort at home.
In the Reserves, with Robbo playing his 200th game
and Driza playing his 100th, we wanted to start the second half of
the season with a win. While on paper the side might not have been as strong as
previous weeks we were confident we could give " Nangas" a good test.
Pegs was controlling the game from the middle providing plenty of scoring
chances for our forwards which Stinger was enjoying. Kieren was having plenty
of the footy on the wing in his first game of B grade while Casper
was back to his best on the other wing. With the best trainer in the club,
Matt Ballantyne solid down back, we were able to score a much needed win. Best
players were Tom Pegler (Beaurepaires), Shane Lambert (Millicent 4WD), Ryan
Bowering (Daves Reilly’s) and Kieren Agnew (Grand Hotel). Today we take on Port
Mac in what should be a good chance for us to test ourselves against one of the
top teams. Good Luck!
After the weeks rest the A Grade were looking to
continue on with the winning form from the previous two games and push towards
the fourth spot on the ladder. Unfortunately this was not the case eventually
going down by 7 points. The first half was not one of our better ones and we
were fortunate enough to still be right in the game coming out after the half
time break. Our second half was much better working hard to be first to the
ball and using the ball well when we had possession. The last quarter was our
best and we had more than enough of the ball to win the game but could not put
the ball through the middle of the big sticks finishing with 2 goals 8 for the
quarter. Although we did not get the win we wanted it was pleasing to see
everyone running the game right out to the final siren. Tyler had another great
game playing some hard and tough footy all day, Robbie in the ruck for the full
second half had his best game for the year and Fatz and Beggsy also had good
games. Best players were Tylah Saunders (Tony Egans Mensland), Mat Faulkner
(Somerset), Robbie Bateman (Bompas) and Darren Paul (Beachport Hotel). Looking
to next week we face the tough task of taking on Pt Mac on their home ground
and we need to have a big four quarter effort to have a shot at getting the
points today.
Thank you to Thea Clough for organizing a fun P
Party last week. It was a truly entertaining night and so much fun was had by
all. For those who missed out check out the photos on hatherleighfc.com and
don’t make the same mistake next time we have a party...be there!
Congratulations to all who dressed up, you really made the night the
success it was. Thanks also to DJ Skidder and Sara...good quality music is hard
to find these days.
Last weeks 100's club
winners were Sam Fitzgerald ($100) and Justin Winter won the carton of
beer. Phil's wheel winner was James Green $35.
