Pines Club Notes Round Nine 2010
If you’re looking for the answer as to why fifth placed Pines seniors after being nearly three goals up at qtr time were beaten by winless bottom side Mornington, this column can’t help you. You’ll just have to ask yourselves. Fair effort by our reserves though with new chum Luke Wilton booting 8 and comeback games by Will Casey (154 club gms) and coach Andy Clarke (224) seeing them amongst the goalkickers. I wonder if any of our club officials have ever read page 40 in our award winning footy record. There you will see a full page on a subject seen as – “Is there a country footy legend at your club?” Your scribe would love for you to have a good hard look at this for there are awards to be won, beneficial values to be gained and most of all, the recognition of a club legend. It’s not too hard to work out who we could nominate. It’s not clear as to whether the person has to be currently involved with the club or if someone from our past can be suggested. Today we face another of the old MPFL teams, Chelsea. We first played the Gulls in 1984 when we were promoted to this division and have met 56 times with the scorecard being Pines 27 wins, 28 lost and 1 draw. Let’s even up that win rate today. Don’t forget that our clubrooms are open to all during the day and for the after match get-togethers. I reckon some of those Seagull veterans might like a comfy chair during the match. Watch today to see Rick Vaughan play his 200th club game (169 snr-30 res) and 50 club games up for both Mitch Bond and Nigel Nunn. Well done to all. The injury list is growing at the moment, as we well know, and noticeably “out” are Gordo who needs 7 gms = 400 and Stubba, 9 = 175. Can they do it? Stay tuned. The netball report has been held over until next week.
