The Div 3 boys travelled to Pomona this week with high hopes after a couple of wins in a row. But with a few (13) missing through injury, work and other commitments and a stormy night, the boys were RIPE for the picking in the wet conditions. Pomona jumped our boys in a fast and fierce opening few minutes to kick three quick goals.
The game wasn’t turning out how we had hoped when Vice Capitan and leading mid fielder Adam Davidson went down with a knee injury that could end his season and reduced the team to only the 18 players. A few minutes later Captain Kris Bamback rolled his ankle and had to play the remainder of the game carrying the injury from the goal square.
Second to the footy and losing in the midfield the Demons all but sealed the game with many forward attacks and putting great pressure on our defence of Peter Holden, Graham Painter and Adrian Dunn & Jack Andrew who did all they possibly could have in the very tough conditions.
It took until the third term to kick our first via the injured Kris Bamback who worked hard presenting himself with an injury that should have sidelined him. A much improved effort by the boys had us winning the ball around the ground and on the scoreboard for the quarter. Adam Mulheron, Riki Cooper and Tom Genge played well through the middle under the guidance and big presence of Brereton Kay. Dan Primmer played his best game for the season in the ruck and pushing back into defence.
It was as tough a day as they come for a few of the boys who played on with injury and stuck at it to almost win the third term on the scoreboard after great goal from Brereton Kay who did a great job in the middle when called upon. Justin Croucher playing his first open age game was a solid contributor off half back, we can expect to see big things from him the future running around in the seniors. Small players Tom Genge and Riki Cooper got belted around a bit by their stronger opponents but they keep getting up and going hard at it all day, Tom even earning a copula of umpire votes we believe. Kye Claney played worked hard in the conditions that didn’t suit him but was still running hard off the wing to the end.
The scoreboard didn’t reflex the effort put in for most of the game against an opposition that was very impressive in the first half.
Better players were, Adam Mulheron, Graham Painter, Brereton Kay, Pete Holden, Tom Genge, Riki Cooper, Dan Primmer and Adrian Dunn. Awards donated by Halse Lodge Noosa, Eat Me Noosaville, Pittsy & Emma’s Fruit Shop Tewantin, Bulli Pizza Marcoola, FIT Noosa at Noosa Blue Resort & Stratogen Accountants Noosaville.
Goals came from Kris Bamback and Brereton Kay.
Thanks to Rangi for running the water again and Stuart Seccombe waving the flags.
It’s the half way mark of the season and next week we come up against flag favourites Nambour who are kicking 20 goals most weeks to 4 or 5. We hope to get a few guys back and can look forward to an improved effort against the best.
