The Tweed Coast Tiger's have grabbed hold of No.1 spot on the Summerland League Table with both hands after a crushing defeat of their arch rivals the Swans by 13 goals in Lismore on Saturday.
In what was touted to be a major challenge for the Tiger's turned out to be a 1 sided affair with the Tigers continuing their dominating form to out muscle and out play the Swan's and leave a trail of white feathers all over Mortimor Oval.
Whilst both teams were under gunned due to injuries, the Tiger's depth of squad has been a strength this season with 25 players turning up ready for duty on Saturday.
The first quarter was a tough contest with both teams demonstrating why they are the top contenders for 2010. Despite pushing into a strong wind the Tiger's on ball combination's of Ash, Johnno, Arnold and Wilson served up quality ball to Roundy and the Tiger's led by 2 goals at the first break.
With the wind at their backs in the 2nd quarter the Tiger's put the foot down and proceeded to break the spirited Lismore side with some exciting football across the park. Bolty's overhead marking was a feature and he bagged 2 of his 3 goals for the game with long range set shots. At the long break the score was Tiger's 9.12 - 56 to Swan's 2.6 - 24.
The 3rd quarter is the premiership quarter and the Tiger's came out firing into the wind. Holding Lismore to 4 goals whilst kicking 3 and lead by 37 at the last break.
The Tiger's strength & fitness is a major asset this season and this was on full display on the large oval in the final term with the Tiger's running rampant kicking 10 goals. Arnie took the Summerland League to a new stratashpere with an unbelievable display to kick 5 goals for the term send the Swan's packing. Strope's welcome return to the team gave the lionhearted Wilson a well deserved rest from the ruck in the final qrter and Strope the huge man played a major hand in all 10 goals.
All the Tiger's contributed in one of the club's biggest win's and after the month the team has had beating all comers in the league its hard to not start looking ahead to that final game in September.
Special Mention to Les, Jai and Westy who popped their goal cherries.
Big thanks to stand in Coach Chicken and all the Tigers support staff including Mark (Team Manager) and Lucy (Team Physio).
