Round six of the Division 3 North competition had the Noosa boys at home for the first time this season against an in form Caloundra team fresh off a win against Pomona. The boys were excited to finally be playing at home and it showed quickly on the scoreboard with Big Derm kicking the first two goals of the game before the creative Ashley Riches kicked the locals 3rd. A four goal to two first quarter came from the run of the midfield along with Kye Claney, Adam Murrihy and Graham Painter.
Kicking against the wind in the second the game tightened up when Caloundra kicked five goals to three, Claney and Painter again providing the drive for Noosa, the locals went into the main break three points down.
Tim Seccombe, Adam Davidson, Daniel Dargaville and Kris Bamback played their usual solid games and help put the locals back in control of the game in the third term supported again by the run from Claney & Painter. Riki Cooper stopped the run out of the middle of the speedy young Caloundra player Stephen Shaw and released Brett Gavin to play some tough footy in the second half. Peter Holden was a solid contributor all day at full back.
A four goal to one third term set up the win but didn’t guarantee it, kicking into a stiff breeze in the last the game wasn’t assured and the boys were given a set plan of how to play into the wind and only focus on the need to win the quarter.
The boys did a great job in the last repelling many attacks from an opposition that did all they could to take the game. Big Derm kicked his fifth and the game was sealed by a Brenton Andrew goal from the scoreboard pocket to go with his first goal from the other pocket. Brenton new to the sport is showing great improvement in only his fourth game.
Goal kicker were, Brereton Kay 5 Ashley Riches, Kye Claney & Brenton Andrew 2 each. Brett Gavin & Riki Cooper 1 each.
Best players were, Brereton Kay, Graham Painter, Kye Claney, Brenton Andrew, Daniel Dargaville, Tim Seccombe, Kris Bamback, Peter Holden & Adam Davidson, who shared the awards from Halse Lodge Noosa, Eat Me Noosaville, Pittsy & Emma’s Fruit Shop Tewantin, Bulli Pizza Marcoola and FIT Noosa at Noosa Blue Resort.
Next week the Div 3 Boys travel to Pomona in an important game, a win would see us ascend up the ladder into the top four and with five of the last seven games at home we could start planning for a final series. A loss would make the road to a finals series a much harder one.
With the senior team travelling to Burleigh next week the only local game for Noosa is at Pomona, lets hope a few make the trip to Pomona to support the Div 3 Team.
I must put a call out to any Noosa supporters or Div 3 player parents for some help for the rest of the season. If anyone can help it will make life much easier. We need some help with the following positions; goal umpire, boundary umpire for our remaining two away games and we need help with goal & boundary umpires along a time keeper and someone to run the scoreboard for our remaining five home games.
We started this weeks game without a time keeper and scoreboard, thank to Doug Murray & Kym Hendrie for help out there.
If you can help out please give Chris Cameron a call on 0413 543 791
