Perfect conditions greeted the demons at the Trevor Barker oval on Saturday. Brad Scott was missing from the team after rolling his ankle against St Pauls whilst Jay Piggin was a late withdrawal. Dion Sanza was also absent due to a mystery ink related complaint.
The first quarter was played mainly on our terms. Daniel Turner opened the scoring after getting on the end of some clever work from Steve Aitken whilst the coach had moved himself forward with good effect. Brendan Ashman laid a superb tackle just before quarter time which went unrewarded, with the stoppage that followed, resulting in a goal to Cheltenham
* Jack Dickens attempt to lay a tackle
The second term was not a good showing with the home side pouring on 6 unanswered goals. The second half was poor as the Chelt on ballers did as the pleased and set up numerous opportunities for their tall forwards. On a perfect marking day there was insufficient pressure on the opposition as they went forward. The end result was very disappointing.
* Darryn Young can't keep the ball in
Dean Kovacic was manful in defence against a range of taller opponents whilst the coach held his own at centre half forward , often providing a contest against 3 opponents(where were our blokes??). Anthony Bernardo again found his share of the sherrin whilst Luke Swan was far from disgraced. At just 17, Matt Thompson is not looking out of place in senior football and his application should embarrass some of his more experienced team mates.
* Right: Matty Pay looks to clear from defence as David Ford looks on.
The fact that coach Paddy’s car wouldn’t start after the game pretty well summed up the reserves day. People arriving after half time in readiness for the senior game were thinking that the electronic scoreboard was malfunctioning, as we had not registered a score. There was nothing wrong with the board as we did not trouble the scorer until the last quarter. Rambo tried hard along with “retired” veteran Lukas Bray, Dave Monaghan and Luke Wenke.
* Steve Aitken centres in the first term, resulting in a goal to Daniel Turner
*Coach Clint Einsiedel lines up the big sticks
