Broadbeach
V’s Noosa
Broadbeach started the game kicking with a couple of goals
breeze.
Winning the ball out of the centre the guys however were
initially unable to capitalise on their good work kicking early points. They
then settled and got their running game going allowing three home side goals on
the board at quarter time. Noosa managed only 1 goal for the quarter.
The second quarter belonged to the opposition who were
dominating all over the ground for the first 15 minutes, fortunately inaccuracy
for Noosa and a couple of late Broadie goals, kept us in touch. Not a good
quarter with the Cats not manning up, overusing the handball and losing Will
and Scot Ryder. to injury. Unfortunately for Will his appeared to be a nasty
knee injury, hopefully not. Going in for the long break The Cats held a small 5
point lead.
The opposition were playing undisciplined footy in the
third quarter and a reversed free kick resulted in a beautiful early goal to
Shae. Noosa were frustrated failing to man up and contest, this enabled our
guys hard work to pay off. Broadie were now playing better footy all over the
ground, taking some good marks, laying strong tackles and generally backing
themselves to win the ball.
With an 11 point lead at three quarter time it was still
anyone’s game. In a tough 4th quarter our guys managed 2 goals 5, to Noosa’s 1
goal. Broadbeach finished off well, really only falling down by taking the
wrong option on occasions and missing shots for goal.
At the final siren the home side were 17 point winners and
deserved to take the 4 points.

Broadbeach
v Coolangatta
Our first away game just down the road at Coolangatta was
played on Sunday 18/4.
After warming up in sunshine, a heavy downpour marred
conditions in the first quarter. Well, at least that was the case for
Broadbeach!
In a first quarter that the coach would probably prefer to
forget, the opposition came out firing, leaving Broadbeach looking very out of
sorts.
Unable to win in the ruck and out of the centre, hold marks
and capitalise on any entry into the forward line Broady managed only 1 goal
for the quarter. The opposition however, looked strong, quick and way hungrier
for the ball, chalking up goals each time the ball entered their forward 50,
booting 5:2 to lead by 24 points at the first break.
The second quarter saw a total turnaround. Broadbeach
started to win in the ruck, the onballers delivering the ball quickly into the
forward line, resulting in goals. The backs were also working harder and kept
Coolangatta to only 1 goal for the quarter. Good goals from our leaders lifted
the Cat’s side and apart from a few too many handballs at times our guys seemed
to click and play much better footy.
The downside for Broady was however what appeared to be a
severe knee injury to Mitch Nibb. (we wish you all the best for a quick
recovery).
In the third quarter the Cats continued where they left of.
Strong tackling, great smothering, exceptional ruckwork (well done Will), and
pinpoint passing hitting targets was rewarded with the side adding 3:2 to the
scoreboard.
Coolangatta scored their only goal for the quarter as a
result of an easy turnover.
The final term also belonged to Broadbeach. Despite
dropping some easy marks and missing a few goals the guys continued to work
hard, winning the ball and dominating pretty much all over the ground,
appearing to do everything the coach had asked of them.
Coolangatta managed 2 goals late in the quarter (too little
–too late!). 3 goals: 4 from the Cats saw them take the 4 points at the final
siren with a well deserved 16 point win.

V’s Sandgate
Another handy, away game win by the Under 18’s on Sunday .
The Cats managed to bring home the points, treating all the
mothers who spent their special day watching their sons play footy.
Not a lot between the 2 sides in the first quarter,
although Sandgate were bigger all over the ground, Broadie were able to stick
with them kicking goal for goal..
Our guys could have been further ahead at quarter time if
they had played tighter in defence and had been more accurate hitting their
targets in offence.
Playing a much tighter game in the second quarter The Cats
outscored the opposition playing a faster and more flowing game. This kept
Sandgate goal less in this quarter and saw Broadbeach go in with a 17 point
lead at the long break.
A disappointing third quarter by the guys gave Sandgate the
opportunity to get back in the game. They were harder at the ball and generally
playing better footy all over the ground, whilst The Cats appeared rather lack
lustre compared to their first half.
At the three quarter time siren Broadbeach held a slight
lead of 4 points.
Broadie came alive in final term and some good passages of
play resulted in a 4:1 quarter, Sandgate only managing 2:3 giving the guys a 14
point win.
Although the 4 points belonged to Broadie the guys will be
even more of a force if they are able to string 4 quarters of their running
style of footy together.
Thanks to those who travelled the distance to support the
guys and also those who helped out during the game.

Broadbeach
v’s Labrador
The under 18’s took on a fairly evenly matched Labrador
side on Sunday morning.
Initially it seemed like the guys struggled to handle the
ball in the dewy conditions, they were having trouble with the wet slippery
ball, dropping marks and not picking the ball up cleanly. When they were able
to gain and maintain possession, moving the ball quicker, goals resulted.
It was a tight first quarter with the scores at the first
change BB: 2:3,-15, Lab: 2:2- 14
The second quarter was just as tight, with both sides
having difficulty kicking goals, it was a battle of the backlines and the guys
were unable to penetrate into the forward line to capitalise on the scoreboard.
The Cats were lacking a tall strong forward as a focus to kick to. Poor kicking
thus, missing targets contributed to turnovers on several occasions. Another
couple of injuries further hampered the already depleted Cat’s side. In a very
low scoring game both sides were 21 a piece at half time.
Broadie managed to keep the opposition goal less in the
third quarter with the backline working hard to do so. Unfortunately though the
forwards only managed 1:2 for the term to hold a 1 goal lead at three quarter
time.
The Cats were completely outplayed by Labrador in the last
quarter, the Tigers were on a roll and kicked 3 unanswered goals giving them an
eleven point win at the final siren, in a game that our guys appeared to find
it difficult to get any momentum going.
With 2 losses(both to sides in the 4) and 4 wins, Broadie
are situated just out of the 4.
Hopefully, a little more effort and lift around the ground
and more wins will result, keeping the guys in touch of the four.
Thanks to all helpers on the day.
