Still searching for a win and a full complement of 22 players the Div 3 boys made the trip north to Gympie with a team that resembled little to that of the one that lost the last two finals.
After a tight opening few minutes the game quickly turned Noosa’s way with goals to the hard hitting Brereton Kay and captain Kris Bamback. The ball moved quickly from the middle via the great work of Tim Seccombe, Adam Davison, Adrian Dunn and Brett Gavin.
New players Hamish Robb and Ashley Riches created many opportunities inside fifty and will be a handful of opposition teams in the future.
Tim Seccombe worked hard all day and is improving each week as a ruckman and as a leader in the team. With a half time lead of eight goals the Noosa boys could have rested and cruised to an easy victory but under 18 players Tom Genge, Kye Claney & Dan Maxfield took the game on and all played great games the pick being Dan Maxfield who went into the middle after half time and lead the way with a best on ground performance.
League convert Adam Mulheron played his usual solid backmans game before tacking his opportunity in the middle and dominated the centre clearance with Maxfield. Mulheron’s games highlighted by a long running goal from outside 50 and then he backed up two minutes later with a snap from the pocket to bring up his second.
The most pleasing part of the win was the form of the younger players, Captain Kris Bamback, Adam Davidson and Brereton Kay again played great games, but it was the young guns that filled the best player list this week and gives the older guys hope for a good season ahead.
Goal kickers were Ashley Riches 4. Kris Bamback & Kye Claney 3 each, Brereton Kay Dan Dargaville Bryce Hughes & Adam Mulheron 2 each and Dan Maxfield 1
The best players went to Dan Maxfield, Tim Seccombe, Adam Mulheron, Tom Genge, Brett Gavin and Kye Claney in what was an even performance. Awards provided by Halse Lodge Backpacker Noosa Heads, Bull Pizza Marcoola, FIT Noosa Noosa Blue Resort, Eat Me Noosa Noosa Junction and Pittsy & Ema’s Fruit Shop Tewantin.
With good numbers now training each week and six or seven players to come back from injury competition for a place in the team can only be good for the future.
To have a look at some great vision from the match -
