Just six days after being mauled by arguably one of the best Brisbane Lions Reserves teams to run out in the QAFL the Tradelink Western Magpies showed their resolve in 2010 to push Mt Gravatt to the edge. Paul Grentell's boys bounced back quickley and hit the Vultures hard in the first quarter scoring 3.3 to 1.1 as a result of strong pressure applied by the Magpies all over the field. The Magpies defense rebound the ball consistently and the midfield used the ball well to set up opprtunities for Luke Scott and Val Pope up forward.
Mt Gravatt came out firing in the second term kicking to the Northern end of the ground whichh seemed to be the scoring end all day. The battle between Shane Morrison and Ed McDonnell was developing into a beauty with both players working hard to get on top of each other. A combination of great pressure and poor kicking saw the Vultures take a 4 point lead into the long break kicking 2.6 for the quarter and the Magpies scoreless.
The premiership quarter saw the Magpies kick 3 goals straight to the Vultures 4.1 and Richard Wenham and James Rozynski were both great in the midfield and Gerard Moore and Dominic Beer were performing well in the ruck but the Magpies needed to make better use kicking to the scoring end.
Facing an 11 point defeicite at 3/4 time the Magpies had once again worked themselves into a winning position and despite not faultering in the effort they produced the Vultures had the much better finish and posted 4.7 to the Magpies 3.0 to seal victory 11.15.81 to 9.3.57. The 24 point loss was a respectable one for the Magpies who need to find the belief they can win games from those positions sooner rather than later.
