SIX goals in the first half from spearhead Darren Ewing has steered Thunder to a 43 point QAFL thumping of Broadbeach at Marrara last night.
Thunder put an end to its three-game losing streak with a seven goal to one first term setting up the 15.20 (110) to 10.7 (67) win.
Although Broadbeach kept it a contest for the remaining three quarters, Thunder ensured it would never get close enough to steal the points.
"It's good to be back on the winners' list, just pleasing after a couple of close and tough losses to come away with a win," a satisfied Thunder coach Murray Davis said.
Thunder burst out of the blocks scoring seven goals to one in the first term to be 37 points clear at the first change.
The Cats came into the game in the second quarter but couldn't penetrate deep enough into their forward 50 throughout the match to generate scoring shots.
Thunder's last quarters have been their nemesis in recent weeks and it took until the 20 minute mark for them to register their first goal, but Davis says an improvement is good enough.
"It was better. The way we played and our style, it was really about the pressure and intensity. Our boys are pretty tired, they gave it their all and in the last quarter if we had kicked straight we would have finished well on top," he said.
"To their (Broadbeach) credit I thought they were really good, they never gave up and their ability to run and give us a contest was really good.
"Sometimes we are our own worst enemies at stages especially in front of goal being one of them."
Zephaniah Skinner was the lone ruckman for the majority of the match but showed no signs of fatigue, and stepped up in the absence of the suspended Kenrick Tyrrell.
Thunder's run and carry down the field was a highlight and the combination of Damien Roe, Mitch Taylor and Bradley Palipuaminni provided plenty of drive from defence.
Aaron Motlop was a late withdrawal with a hamstring injury but the engine room of Cameron and Jarred Ilett, Jake Dignan and Brett Goodes ensured it was tough for the Cats to get their hands on the footy.
Fulton was a lone hand up forward for the Cats with three goals while Nathan Quick, Josh Searl and Dane Zorko were among their best contributors.Thunder 7.3 10.11 13.13 15.20 (110)Broadbeach 1.2 5.2 8.2 10.7 (67)Goals: Thunder: D Ewing 6, R Hale 3, J Ilett, Z Skinner, R Kantilla, S Wilson, G Cunningham, L Tyrrell.
