All things pointed to a good day when 20 players arrived on time at the ground as requested, the Div 3 boys looking forward to getting a win under the belt boarded the bus for Bribie Island with the strongest team fielded this year.
The preparation was tough in the 7 x 2 meter changes rooms but the boys got off to a great start with first gamer Ashley Riches kicking the first goal within a couple of minutes, a great running goal by veteran Douga Ellis and the boys were looking good before a bad run of injuries started with Douga doing a hammy and Josh Birse popping his shoulder out, the ambulance arrived and Greeny was off to Caboolture Hospital.
Another goal before quarter time and the boys went in with a 2 goal lead, but nothing left on the bench. Kicking into a breeze in the second Noosa again had control of the game kicking a further 2 but loosing another couple of player who had no choice but to remain on the ground. The third goal for the quarter came right on the siren when captain Kris Bamback showed some fine soccer skills to chip the ball out of mid air and hit a target 25 meters away who steered the ball through the big sticks as the siren rang for half time.
A couple of goal up and playing their best footy for the year, the Div 3 boys looked weary at half time but keen to push on for a win. It wasn’t to be with players not being able to change the boys just ran themselves in to the ground and came up short in the end. Injures to new players Riki Cooper and Ash Riches and Dermy Kay along three others just didn’t help the cause. It wasn’t the win the boys needed but a good effort up against 22 Bulldogs and a couple of others who strutted the large ground at Bribie.
Best players were Danial Dargaville, Kris Bamback, Adam Davidson, Tim Seccombe, Graham Painter and Adrian Dunn
Goals were kicked by Jamie Bower 2, Chris Cameron 2, Glen Ellis 1 & Ashley Riches 1
A win isn’t far away, it will take time for the team to settle with six new players introduced on Saturday most of whom having not played for some time. Brereton Kay made a welcome return in his first game for the year putting in a solid performance before running out of steam later in the game, but not before laying one of the better bumps your likely to see. The trip home was a good one with many stops the first being the Caboolture Hospital to check up on Greeny then a few refreshments stops and nature breaks.
Next week sees the Div 3 boys head up the highway to Gympie for yet another away game and another opportunity of picking up four points.
Congratulations to vice captain Adam & Jo Davidson on the safe arrival of the first child Mya Davidson.
