Unknown ground, Unknown team, Unbelievable Win!
The Tweed Coast Tigers have earned their position on top of the Summerland league table with a comprehensive thrashing of the Coolangatta Blues by 15 goals at Kirra on Mother’s Day Sunday.
This was the first time these 2 teams have met and as the two in form teams of the competition so far this season, this game was billed as a tough match for the no.1 position.
However the outcome was very one-sided with the Tigers dominating the Blues across the park with hard tenacious football which they earned a reputation for last season. The Tigers were still under strength with at least 5 top grade players missing, but the battle for starting positions in the team is now heating up and all 22 players contributed towards a fantastic win for the Tigers.
From Timmy at the back, Wilson in the Ruck, to Jacob up the front all the Tigers are showing the benefit of a hard fitness program and were obviously the fitter team on the day. The combinations are clicking and the onballers had a field day in front of a fair sized Cooly crowd. Unfortunately for the home crowd the Tigers lead at every break and left them little to cheer about playing a full 4 quarter game to completely shut Cooly and their crowd out of the match.
Special mentions for new young recruits Muzza and Thommo who did the job the Coach ask of them and managed a couple of goals between them to open their accounts for the Tigers.
Johnno, Jimmy, Arnold, Herc, Josh, Jai and Nugget demonstrated they are now the inform onballers in the league carving up the Cooly pack. The backs under the direction of Timmy provided too many headaches for the Cooly forwards to limit their scoring potential.
Whilst up front big Jacob dominated the marking competitions to bag 5 goals and anything he didn’t grab was snavelled like a loose chip by the pack of marauding seagulls (aka forward pockets) with Vic, Benny, Matty, Muzza, Nugget, Thommo all sneaking goals for the Tigers.
All in all a special day for the Tigers who now look towards the huge clash this weekend v Byron Bay. The Tigers will be out for revenge after narrowly going down to Byron by 2 points in Rd 1 and with the return of nearly all players there will be some selection headaches for Shags this Thursday Night at Training.
Due to Mother’s Day commitments on Sunday the Game Presentations for the Cooly Match will be done at Training this week.
