Today we venture to Kalangadoo and congratulate Frank Brennan and
Ian Featherstone who will play their 100th game for our club. Justin Winter
will also play his 50th club game today and we wish Justin all the best for 50
more. Make sure you congratulate these guys on achieving their
milestones.
This week we thank our sponsors Argyle Hill Livestock and Chay
& Merrett Stock Agents. Please give a big thanks these generous
supporters of our club and remember to support them in return.
Round 5 saw us play at our home ground against Kongorong and the Junior Colts continued their good form with another win and a pleasing four
quarter team effort. Again we dominated a lot of the play, but inaccurate
kicking let us down in front of goals. We will continue to work on our game at
training and make sure inaccuracy doesn't cost us in the future. Greeny and
Watto once again led from the front, and the backline once again did a great job
repelling any Kongorong attacks. Best players were Luke Green (Duckys) ,
Brett Watson (Pete Walters) , Tom Gilbertson (Gary Nilsson), Tom "Chopper" Chant
(John Cavs) , Tom Jackman-Tilley (HFC Ladies Committee) and Sarah Allan
(Hath Sp&Rec Steak).
The Senior Colts put in a better performance this week
although the score board shows otherwise. The award winners were Sam Telfer
(Seebohms) , John Thorpe (KAOS) , Tom Schulz (John Cavs) , Dylan Clough (Gary
Nilsson), Jonah Brown (HFC Ladies Committee) & Seamus Mullins (Hath
Sp&Rec Steak) . Daniel Sutherland had some early touches & brother Ethan
showed some dash on the flank in the second half. Mason Bunt battled hard all
day & the ‘Smithy’ goes to Sam Telfer for a great effort in the middle where
he picked up kicks all over the ground & bagged a few
goals.
Taking on the only undefeated side in the B Grade
competition the boys took to field eager to ruin their run. With Crab in for his
first game of the year the side looked strong on paper and just needed to play
to their capabilities to be competitive. With the Kongorong full forward
borrowing Driza's boots in the first quarter we were lucky not to be 10
goals down but we stuck to our task and stayed with them to get home
by 2 points! Warney battled hard all day and provided good run out of
the backline and was well supported by Mots who had his best game for the
club so far this year. Fatz was as reliable as ever and Driza's move into
the ruck provided the onballers with first use of the footy and his chase and
tackle in the 3rd quarter surprised everyone including himself. Cluffy in for
his first game of senior footy showed he isn't out of sorts playing at senior
level with great composure and skill that will see him be a good footballer for
many years to come. Award winners were Matt Emmerson (Beaurepaires), Darren Paul
(Millicent 4WD Systems), Tom Motley (Dave Reilly's) and Anthony Driessen (Grand
Hotel)
With a couple of players returning to the A Grade side
after a weeks rest we were able to field our strongest team for the season
so far. The voice and feeling before the game was great and it carried
throughout the whole game taking us to our first win for the year. With everyone
contributing and working hard right to the final siren it was a great
effort to hold off Kongorong in the last quarter and take the points.
Our intensity and attack on the ball was good and we had some great
passages of play, using the ball well and finding our targets. Our backline did
a great job throughout the day running the ball out and moving the
ball on quickly down to our forwards who were able to put the score on the
board. It was a good team effort and was pleasing to get the first win
under the belt. With room still to improve the confidence and attitude shown
Saturday combined with some hard work on the track will only make us stronger
and help lead to more wins. Great effort lads, lets make sure we carry on
today from where we left off last week. Best players
were Matt Fabris (Tony Egan's), Brett Sneath (Somerset), Josh Sandland (Bompas)
and Ian Featherstone (Beachport Hotel).
Last weeks Calcutta was B Sneath, M Faulkner, J
Bateman/M Bowman.
100's Club subs are now due. Remember if you have not paid
