A perfect day for the much anticipated grand final replay. The Eagles made several changes with Griffiths, Papillo and Cullen returning to the side and David Spriggs playing his first game. Siciliano, Smith and Bardon were out injured while Della’Quilla was dropped to the reserves where he kicked 6 goals.
Although Croydon scored first you could tell we were up and about – vastly different to last week. Andonov went off early and will have scans on his knee. Kelly kicked the first 2 goals for the eagles followed by Froud and Rogneda. We had the majority of the play with plenty of coring opportunities. At ¼ time we led 4-7 to 1-4.
Kelly kicked his third from a terrific snap then McInerney goaled after the play of the day in the build up. Froud kicked the next 3 goals with Mullett, McLure and Millhouse helping along the way. Croydon goaled on the siren but at the break we led by 38 points 9-11 to 3-5. Better players for the half were Froud, McLure, Mendes, Papillo, Kelly, Nummy and Carmody.
Overall, it was a very even 2nd half with the eagles kicking 10-9 to 10-8. Carmody who was playing his best game kicked the first goal. Rushton and Millhouse were also good in defence. Greig finally kicked a goal then Froud kicked his 5th. Cotchett chimed in with 2 goals and then Papillo. McLure was doing well in the ruck. Mullett had a very good quarter. At ¾ time we led 15-15 to 7-9.
When Croydon kicked the first 2 goals of the final term they had kicked 6 of the last 7 goals. Croydon kicked 6-7 in the last quarter to 4-5 as we began to release the pressure. Both Froud and Greig kicked 2 goals. Mendes played a terrific game. At the finish a very satisfying result with the eagles home by 43 points. Better players for the half were Mendes. Mullett, Cotchett, McLure, Rogneda, Ross and Froud.
Goalkickers – Froud 7, Greig 3, Kelly 3, Cotchett 2 and singles to McInerney, Carmody, Papillo and Rogneda.
Best Players – Mendes, Froud, Mullett, Cotchett, McLure, Ross and Millhouse.
Possessions – Mendes 28, Mullett 27, Cotchett 25, Millhouse 22, Dore 21 with 19 each to Rushton, Nummy and Rogneda. Ross had 15 touched and 33 hit outs Mendes, Mullett and Froud each took 9 marks.
1% - Ross 14, McCarthy 11, Nummy 10, Cameron 8 and Millhouse 7.
Coach’s Comments – A very gutsy effort – it was such a difference from last week. We played hard footy in the first half against a good side. The young guys shared the effort – a much better team effort.

Both teams were undefeated. Parker who is showing good signs kicked 2 goals in the opening term one of these with the help of Ellis from Box Hill. Della’Quilla who was playing up forward where he likes best kicked the other. Travis Bird was playing his best game for the year in the ruck and McDonald was lively around the ground. At ¼ time we led 3-2 to 3-1. We were well on top for the next 2 quarters with Parker kicking his 3rd. McDonald continued to impress with 2 goals with singles coming from Quon, Bull and Della’Quilla. Geraghty was playing his usual strong honest game. At ¾ time we led 9-8 to 5-5.
Della’Quilla kicked 4 goals in the last quarter Carrodus kicked the other and made a very good contribution when he came on. At the end it was a 36 point win.

Coach’s Best Players – McDonald, Geraghty, Della’Quilla, Jones, Pisano, L.Johnson and Carrodus when he came on.
Coach’s Comments – A really good win – our running out of the backline was good. Blokes did well in foreign positions – Nick Carrodus had a huge impact when he came on. Jeff praised the efforts of onballers McDonald and Geraghty. He said - lets start thinking we are the real deal.
COLTS FINAL SCORE
VERMONT 21-18-144 def CROYDON 3-7-25
Wee completely overwhelmed the opposition with a huge win. Our performance was like book ends – fantastic first and last quarters but mediocre in between. Our standard dropped at the start of the 2nd term when we found it difficult to cope with their loose men in defence. We kept bombing it it and they bombed it out. We didn’t have the patience to set up and chip. At half time we led 9-7 to 0-4. Better players for the half were Williams who kicked 3 goals in the 1st quarter, Thompson, Yousef. Barry-Murphy, McCafferty, Johns and Gannon.
We kicked 12-11 to 3-3 in the 2nd half with Barry Murphy, McCafferty and Stachan especially impressive. Williams kicked 2 more goals as we coasted to a comfortable 119 points win. We again got our game together in the last quarter when we kicked 8 goals 8 to 1-1.
Goalkickers – Williams 5 with 2 each to Barry-Murphy, McCafferty, Sonsie, Johns and Strachan with singles to Burmeister, Thompson, Lawlor, Checkley, Davidson and Moss.
Coach’s Best Players – McCafferty, Yousef, Strachan, Gannon, Moss, Lawlor and Davidson.
Coach’s Comments – The systems worked when you started working for each other. Graeme paid tribute to two players – Connor McCafferty for his attitude and Luke Strachan who has come along in leaps and bounds over the last couple of weeks. It was hard to pick a standout player as our effort across the ground was balanced.
