This week we thank our sponsors, NBC Financial Services
and Coopers Brewery. They are great supporters of the Hatherleigh
Football Club. They generously sponsor our club and we ask all players and
supporters to remember this support and support them in return.
Round 3 saw us travel to Glencoe and the Junior Colts
played a good game in blustery and wet conditions, and were able to dominate
play from the outset. With some good hard running from the onballers and the
half backs, we were able to maintain strong scoreboard pressure. Unfortunately
we were very inaccurate, but none the less were able to come away with a good
positive win. Best players for the game were Brett Watson (John Cav Real
Estate), James Gilbertson (Pete Walters), James Barclay (Gary Nilsson), Dylan
Montouri (HFC Ladies Committee) and Mitch Pulmer (Hath Sport & Rec
steak).
Well it was a sad day for the Senior Colts at Glencoe
although the players played with more endeavor than the scoreboard shows. The
award winners were Tom Schulz ( Seebohms), Michael Ogilvie (John Cav Real
Estate), Sam Telfer (Gary Nilsson), Cameron Slape (HFC Ladies Committee)
and Stanley Hyde (Hath Sport & Rec Steak). Mason Bunt and Tyler Snook tried hard
all day. With the bye last week we have had time to regroup and
hopefully put in a better performance against Kongorong today. There was no
Smithy award for the Glencoe game and he suggested the boys needed
some work in the sand dunes.
With a very good side on
paper the Reserves took the field confident we could give Glencoe
a real test. Kicking with the wind we started well and were working well as a
team. Stratty was in everything and was causing headaches for Glencoe. Chris
Chant was using his speed to great affect on the wing, Rodders in for his first
game was controlling the backline well and was well supported by the evergreen
Matt Ballantyne (imagine how easy it would be if you trained Matt). Ant was
providing a good target up forward but couldn't convert! Trav rucked all day and
had his best game for the year so far. In the end we went down by under a goal
but showed signs that if we train and believe in ourselves we will be right in
the mix come finals time.(Coaches note; Thanks to Dan Spicer and Juddy for your
efforts on Saturday. It was appreciated ! ) Award winners for the game were
Travis Kneen (K&S Ampol), Nathan Stratford (Dave Reillys Panel & Paint),
Darren Paul (Grand Hotel) and Tom Pegler (Beachport Hotel).
A couple of changes to the A Grade against
Glencoe made way for two 16 yr old senior colts in Aden Bell and Kieren
Agnew to make their first senior appearance. The boys not looking out of place
at all did a great job, Aden also kicking a goal in his first game. We started
very well kicking in to the breeze the boys were up and going with plenty of
voice and enthusiasm showing some good skills and passages of play. The second
quarter we relaxed slightly, not using the breeze to our full advantage and
again could not put the score on the board. Coming out after half time Glencoe
found too much space and were able to have many scoring shots at goal. The boys
in the back line were battling away well, repelling many attacks to give us a
slight chance heading into the last. Needing to kick some early goals in the
last, we were not able to do so and Glencoe finished off strongly, kicking away
to make the score not look so good. All up we are playing some good footy in
patches but need to have the intensity and voice over all 4 quarters. With a
week to rest up and some players to return, we will be ready to go today. Award
winners were Brett Sneath (Somerset), Mat Faulkner (Beachport Hotel), Saxon
Ellis (Millicent Golf club), Josh Sandland (Bompas) and Tylah Saunders (Prince
of Wales).
Calcutta: B Sneath, M Bowman, M
Faulkner.
A reminder to all players and parents there are still
player subs outstanding. If you haven't paid yours please do the right thing and
pay your team manager or Jill Paul. Don't make some one have to chase you for
it!
