Time for excuses is over, says Ilett

THUNDER skipper Jarred Ilett wants his side to make a loud
statement on Saturday night by beating QAFL opponent Broadbeach by a
big margin.
Frustrated by last quarter fadeouts against top five sides Redland,
Morningside and Southport, Ilett said the time for excuses was past.
"While
we're still learning a lot about each other and we have played the top
four sides, it's time to start making some strong statements at home,"
he added.
"And to do that we need to belt the sides we get in
Darwin and Alice Springs. That's taking nothing away from Broadbeach,
Western Magpies or Mt Gravatt who have pushed some of the top sides
themselves."
Ilett said the last quarter fadeouts were a "concentration and mental thing".
"Once
we find that spark we'll be away and a lot of that will come from
knowing each other a lot better on and off the field," he said.
"It's all about forming a brotherhood at Thunder and we've nearly locked that in.
"Mixing it with the big boys is important and now we have to step up and establish a bigger reputation at home.
"We were confident at three-quarter time when we only trailed by four points but we couldn't produce when it counted most."
Ilett said talent and ability were not a problem at Thunder, but mental application seemed to be.
"That
will start with a four-quarter performance and it's something we have
to do against Broadbeach this week," he said. "Combining talent and
ability into a positive result on the scoreboard is the answer."
