Pines Club Notes Round Four 2010
We went to the mountain last week and possibly deserved to win even though we were blown away in the first qtr. The valiant efforts of the next three terms were shattered when with only minutes to go and only four pts down, a goal square mark by Double R was paid then disallowed. He may have added another to his previous 3 and the result of the game could have been ours. Jamie Messina was dashing with 4. No joy for our reserves either but veteran Rick Vaughan (194 club games) was nifty with 3 goals. Thirds aren’t doing too good but at least we’re sporting a team each week and the lads are getting a game of footy, keep at it Jason and the Argonauts. Welcome to our neighbours from down the road, Seaford, and neighbours it is too for we would have to be the two closest clubs geographically on the peninsula. There has always been the best of respect for each other and through the years there have been players that have gone to school together, lived in the same street and even worked together. This is our fortieth meet today and the scorecard reads, Pines 18 wins, Seaford 20 with one draw. The drop in wins for us only came over the last few years and we need to patch that up today. Many years ago there was a trophy between our clubs known as The Sundowner Hotel Shield but this faded away when Seaford went to other divisions between 1997 and 2004. Many clubs have challenge trophies between each other and the resurrection of one between Pines and Seaford is food for thought. Have yet to meet Nicky, our new canteen / kitchen manageress, but I’m told that the Thursday night meals are superb and reasonably priced too. Come along, have a great meal, chat with the players and coaches and don’t forget your autograph book. Coming soon, 15 May, Ladies Day. Oh dear!!
