Tigers 20.15 - 135 d Bombers 8.9 - 57
The Tweed Coast Tigers have continued
on with their winning form beating the Ballina Bombers by 12 goals on Saturday in
front of a fantastic home crowd at Pottsville.
The Bombers are always a tough team
and with 8 of the Tigers run on team out with injury or other commitments it
was an opportunity for Coach Shags to test the depth of the Tigers squad in
2010.
The Tigers on ball combinations are
starting to find form and rhythm with Arnold, Johnno and Jimmy (No Barra) Walle
running riot across the park on the back of some great ruck work from Wilson
and Jacob.
Jimmy’s return from a pre season hamstring
injury was always going to harden up the middle but it was Arnold who stole the
show with a mesmerising display of magic hands, dazzling pace and long kicks penetrating
deep into the forward line time and again. Not to mention one attempted mark that if he'd held it would of been a chance for mark of the year in the AFL little alone the Summerland League.
The Tigers started on fire from the bounce
and broke away to a solid 6 goal lead at the first break.
To Ballina’s credit they came out at the
start of the second quarter and played some quality football to kick 5 unanswered
goals and be just 5 points shy of the Tigers with 5 mins left until the
break. However the Tigers then steadied and some solid work from Arty and the boys at
the back rebounding the Ballina attacks that allowed Jimmy the opportunity to
kick a couple of late goals including one from the centre square to get the Tigers
back to a comfortable lead by half time.
From there the Tigers were never threatened
and started to dominate the contests across the park.
The second half turned into the
Arnold, Johnno and Roundy show with the onballers consistently winning the ball
from the rucking of Wilson and Roundy taking big marks or dishing the ball off
to the small forwards for some sneaky goals. Herc and Johnno got into the goal kicking action banging
home 5 solid goals between them to finish the match.
It was an impressive second half for
the Tigers with contributions across the park and considering the talent in the
ranks still to come back into the side, things are looking good.
Big thanks to all the Tigers volunteer
support and Club President Col, for putting together such a great day for all.
Also thanks to the team support staff
and of course the fantastic home crowd.
