Read the Play comes to the Club
Read the Play is an innovative program which addresses the
health and well being of young people.
· It is a mental health literacy problem for
junior sports clubs, targeting Under 16 football and 15 & Under netball across the local leagues
· The major sponsor of the program is Kempe.
· Other sponsors include the City of Greater
Geelong, Headspace Barwon, Bendigo Bank, Alcoa, Lions Club, De Grandi Cycle and
Sport and the Geelong Taxi Group
· The committee of management includes representation
from Kempe, Football Geelong, GDFL , Bellarine and District Netball Association,
Barwon Health Foundation, Barwon Health Mental Health, Headspace Barwon,
Leisure Networks, City of Greater Geelong and the Geelong Police.
The aims of Read the Play are
to:
· Increase knowledge and awareness about mental
health problems
· Increase knowledge about local support services
· Increase confidence and skills in guiding our
youth to relevant support services
The under 16 footballers have been divided up over two
nights - 5th and 12th
May with the netballers having their evening on 25th May. This Games
Night will run for approximately an hour and quarter with a light meal provided
by the club and partial sponsored by Routley’s.
