Round 4 for our Under 18s is a Friday night game at Sydney Uni No 1.
The Bombers took time to find their bearings on the small Uni ground, and the Students had the better of the opening term to lead by 10 points at quarter time and by 21 points early in the second quarter. But the Bombers fought back, kicking the last 4 goals of the quarter to take the lead shortly before the long break.
But the Students again took control in the third term, kicking 4 goals to 2 to take a 10-point lead to three-quarter time. The last quarter was a thriller, with the Bombers taking the lead but a Sydney Uni goal with 2 minutes to go saw the Students take the lead. But the Bombers never gave up and pressed to the end - Rogers kicking the winning goal from 40 metres out as the final siren sounded.
Final Score - North Shore 11.8 (74) def Sydney Uni 11.5 (71).
Our First Division side played at Sydney Uni on Saturday, and had a fight on their hands against a fast-running and well drilled Uni outfit. At half time the Students held a 24-point lead.
But the Bombers weren't going down without a fight, and a strong run late in the third term cut the margin to 14 points at the last change. and early in the last term the margin was cut to 8 points as the Bombers looked to be coming home with a wet sail. But the challenges of playing catch-up footy were all too much, and the Students steadied with two late goals to win by 19 points.
Final Score - Sydney Uni 12.8 (80) def North Shore 9.7 (61).
Our Premier Division side got off to a flying start against Sydney Uni. Inaccurate kicking has prevented the Bombers from getting full reward for their effort, but the Bombers held a handy 32-point lead at quarter time. And the one-way traffic continued in the second half, with the Bombers holding the Students to a single goal in the first half to lead by 51 points at the long break.
The third quarter saw the Bombers continue to dominate proceedings, with 6 goals to 1 for the quarter to lead by 80 points at three-quarter time. With the game won, the game went through the motions in the last quarter, but the 69 ppint final winning margin is enough to keep the Bombers' unbeaten run and top spot on the ladder intact.
